well received bt package today. with ADSL BT VOYAGER 2110 wireless router? i was thinking im not sure if its that good.

is there any better adsl routers?

im using 8mb connection. and im bad at networking

the thing i would like improve lower latency / ping.

wireless is important as we have few laptops around the house

ty for help

getting another router won't do much to your ping at all. Ping is determined mostly by kit outside your control. Another router might get you better synch and better features though, like QoS that WILL improve latency when others start downlaoding etc.

there are lots of good ones depending how much money you want to spend and what you will use it for.
My usual advice is to get a cable router and separate ADSL modem as it's more flexible in allowing you to mix and match router and modem to best suit your needs.

u mean two router connected to each other? or something like it ?

nah i rather have 1 good router with wireless option. i dont like those 3rd party routers that u have to connect to adsl router.

around not more then 100£

No I mean a router that has no modem chip in and a separate modem with no routing capabilities. A modem + router setup would be more like a linksys AM200 + WRT54GS. You could go for an all in one but integrating a modem chip requiring drivers in the firmware massively reduces the custom firmware out there which is what usually makes the point for upgrading a router.

This router is actually pretty decent from my experience, as are all Voyagers (good QoS etc) although I'm not sure what package you received it with considering BT don't distribute (and never have) with any deal

well i got the 7.6 mb package and u get free modem if u order online. for some reason. i get high pings or unstable pings for a month now for no reason at all.

Ah right, I see you're in the Republic :p That'll explain it then. Now are your disconnections/high pings down to wireless or is the whole line playing up? Try connecting a single device via ethernet and see if the same thing happens. If it doesn't, it's more than likely an issue with the Voyager that can probably be fixed in no time.

well im using ethernet on my main pc i used to get around 30~40 ping depends on the server constant. then suddenly it became 90 ~ 130 specially in uk servers.

i was using eircom so i swapped to bt but the same thing even worse.

playing tf2 i get(connection problem) for few seconds then it lags back in. ping/latency jumps around from 80 ~ 130/140

i switched of the wireless still the same thing. how ever download speeds are fine.

im noob when it comes to networking modems etc.. so dont have a clue :) what to do

edit: its not in one game it happens to all when u play online.

some people say that by upgrading line to a faster speeds and etc and if db is below 6 u might encounter problems ? if it makes sense to anyone ?

Line Rate 7616 Kbps 672 Kbps
Noise Margin 14.4 dB 13.0 dB
Line Attenuation 28.0 dB 15.0 dB
Output Power 5.6 dBm 15.8 dBm

This would indicate that it's either a line fault or something on your PC, if you've been using two different routers (Eircom one and BT one) and had the same problem.
