Just got a new quad and I'm limited to 3.2 as it gets a bit toasty above this, I'm rather limited on space at the moment so cant go for anything bigger which rules out the best option of the fenrir. Is there anything similar in performance but a little shorter?

150mm tall is my limit

How would an akasa nero perform with stock fan and say a Akasa Viper or Apache

I had considered it but I'd rather not spend that much when I'm going for a proper waterloop shortly, and the 'el cheapo case I'm using doesnt have a 120mm fan mount that would be useable so would mean bodging it into the spare 3 drive bays

Thats what id do, and did on my E8400 abit ago, no point spending money on a cooler your gonna replace shortly, that and any cooler you get that will fit won't be much better.

Looks like I'll we waiting, nothing seems worth the spend as none of the coolers thats will fit are going to be much improvement.

I'll be going custom water nearer the end of the year though.

3.2 would be would a good clock from an athlon II quad however its actually a deneb based chip so I'm sure it'll be good for 3.8 or higher

Its an asus TA-861, its only a stop gap case until I buy something better.

i just looked at the dimensions again and the Nero S won't fit either.

My maximum height for a cooler is about 7mm shorter than a Hyper 212 Plus

If your system is having problems overclocking due to the CPU getting a bit toasty then the solution may be to buy a new Thermally-Advantaged case! ;)

A good chassis is as important for keeping the CPU cool as much as a good CPU HSF . . . the thing is no matter how good a heatsink you buy it will always struggle to perform well in a small overheated chassis . . .

Once you get your new cool case you can work out the right cooler to invest in, rather than choosing a cooler based on a small case you don't intend to keep? :p

Can you get £75 notes together for this! :D

I have my heart set on the CM-690 II and have done since before its release, thus the delay in a new one. It fits all of my requirements perfectly due to being a mid tower, good airflow and capacity for custom watercooling.

The Antec is a great case for the money but simply doesnt fit my requirements.

Yeah that looks like a really nice case! :) . . . bit pricey for me personally but does look pretty "swing" . . . . . so why don't you relax with your OverClocking experiments while you save for that case . . . . buy the case and a nice MultiPlatform HSF and your sorted! . . . . don't buy an interim cooler?

You've tempted me with the Antec 300 so much I've just ordered one. Sod the custom water theres no need for it with my hardware, and its not like I need the silence
