Better WIFI perfomance?

Would there be any benefit to replacing my existing wireless router which is a Dlink G604T? Or a bigger aerial?
The wireless performance seems to be pretty dire to me, it seems to be topping out at about 200 - 300 K when downloading off the net via wireless. In contrast when plugged in via a bit of CAT5 to the same router I get my full speed (8 meg DSL). Also when accessing my printer which is attached to the lan I get timeouts quite often via WIFI.
The signal all seems to be top notch throughout the house after doing a survey from my laptop.
I have tried some tweaks such as turning off all bar G support and enabling bursting but makes little odds to the performance. Maxes out on the Windows XP task manager at not much more than 1% of total bandwidth.
Card on the laptop is built in Intel 3945ABG.

Any help appreciated, have a budget of probably upto 100 notes for any recommendations.

umm, there are other people having the same problem with this router

Open CONTROL PANEL
Open SYSTEM
Open HARDWARE
Open DEVICE MANAGER
Open NETWORK ADAPTERS
Right-click your Wireless adapter and click PROPERTIES
In ADVANCED, make sure that the AD HOC CHANNEL is the same as your router's.

try these :
1. change the wireless channel to 6
2. change the wireless channel to 11
3. disconnect all LAN wired devices from the router
4. update the wi-fi card driver

that's it, I'm all out of straws to clutch at....
