Better win 7 or 8

Hi guys. I just whant to know with better for games: windows 8 64 bit or windows 7 ultimate 64bit ? Thank you.

Also just to add if you only want to game, don't bother with Windows 7 Ultimate. Home will do the job fine and will be an awful lot cheaper.

And there are plenty of other threads on the subject.

Windows 8, it'll be supported for longer and is the currently release. There's little point buying an older OS unless you are in dire need of old games etc especially when Windows 8 has much faster patching than Windows 7 and won't require a service pack releases to update. So although you might be able to play old games, you might struggle with newer ones if there's a Windows 7/8 bug that needs patched.

Performance doesn't really have anything in it, some say Windows 7, some say 8.

Bottom line: if you can't get use to a very simple GUI or need backwards compatibility for a limited number of old games go for Windows 7 otherwise go for Windows 8 where all of us cool kids are:p

Personally I wouldn't go back to Windows 7 now, too many nice touches in Windows 8

I didn't notice any performance difference in games between 7 or 8 so go with your preference. I tried 8 for a couple of months and went back to 7, mainly because of the clunkyness around multi-tasking (I like 3+ applications on the screen at once). Full screen apps are nice but unnecessary on a 2560x1600 screen.

i have win7 HP 64bit missus has win8 64bit, cant comment on gameplay, but i do like win8 and might upgrade to it, but when i used to play games on mine that arnt web based then i had no problems at all.

certain older games worked, but some didnt, big fan of Worms, but cant seem to find one that works with win7, i suppose it depends what you intend on playing.

No issues gaming in Win8 x64 Pro for me,infact just installed Icewind Dale with all the mods(including widescreen mod) working fine, also tried other classic oldies like Baldurs Gate with mods,BG2 etc...I could name more modern games like Syndicate,XCOM,Skyrim,Dishonored,GW2,Firefall,ME3,DA,DA2,RIFT,STO,SWTOR,Planetside 2 and loads more :) .

I've yet to find a game I can't run,I'm more worried about running out of disk drive space for all my games lol...

I go with Win8 infact i did ;) as a gamer.

I'm confused, if you have 3 programs open on 7, you can have the same 3 programs open on 8?

What are you on about? I'm surprised that after using the os for months that you couldn't figure that out, seeing as its the same as its always been.

I use dual monitors on Windows 8 and have no problems switching/moving apps around in the desktop.

Unless you are talking about the Start screen apps? Then i dunno, because as a desktop user with Windows 8 i find no use with the Start screen apps as i am 99.9% using the desktop.

As a Windows 8 user I will say 7 because it is more mature and games of last gen were built for them. So if you want to play older games or games which are modded, then there is more support with Windows 7 as generally the Wider World dislike Win 8.

Or how about...

For gaming they are practically the same. I believe Windows 8 is starting to gain an edge performance wise but it's nothing that's going to really swing it either way.

Just try both operating systems and see which you, personally, prefer.

I was talking about the start screen apps yes. Because of that I ended up, like you are, using the desktop most of the time which for me made the OS no different to 7 other than having a full screen start menu.

Between the two the boot times are almost identical, game performance was almost identical. A couple of my old programs wouldn't work in 8 which would have meant purchasing new versions, but otherwise it felt much the same.

It really is down to personal preference, I don't think the OP will go wrong picking either OS for gaming.

Windows 8 X64 is fine for compatibility here, all i had to do to get my older games to work (2006/7) to work was to run them in XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Cannot really comment on games from the 90's early 00's.

Win 7.

If you want to turn your PC into a tablet, get Win 8.

Always stick with Win 7 64bit and wait for the next iteration of windows and pray it wont be a tablet OS hash job.
