hi
below is my build, I intend to upgrade in the near future and would like your advice as to what to replace. its mainly for gaming (BBC2) and the internet. The budget is flexible.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 LGA775 "Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB)
Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
Asus P5Q Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair VX 550W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-550VXUK)
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel
Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Re Writer
One of your members in the graphic card section recommended the two items below which look very good.
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
OCZ Vertex 60GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-1VTX60G) [OCZSSD2-1VTX60G]
thanks in advance

£1000? J-heez I wish I had that for a full build let alone an upgrade:D lol

Anywho:

How much gaming do you do? If it's a lot I would advise a better GPU than the 5850, perhaps a GTX 570 or HD 6950

How are you doing for storage currently? An SSD would be a good idea for a boot drive but you could chuck in another 500GB if you need more storage space.

Also, would you like a new case or are you ok with your Antec?

For your budget an i5-2500k with a good motherboard that supports CF/SLI, should you need it, and 4GB of RAM should be minimum.

thanks for all the advice so far, I suppose one other option would be to sell this build and start over again, but there again I would need more than £1000

If you answer my questions then people can give you the different option for your situation....but with regards to a new build for £1k, I accept your challenge!:D

Gainward GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £349.99

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor £173.99

Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £109.99

OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (AGT3-25SAT3-60G) £98.99

XFX Pro 750W Core Edition Power Supply £72.98

Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - Black £59.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) £43.99

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £39.98

Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £27.98

Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.98

Total : £1,008.88 (includes shipping : £12.50)

But that includes one of the best graphics cards around, so if you don't game that much, you could drop down to a 6950 (which will still handle anything you throw at it) for around £100-150 less.

thanks for your search sk82jack so the selling option might work.I play a fair amount of games mostly on-line BBC2 etc. I have one 500GB already installed.its about four years since I built my last rig I take it the one you suggest is a very up to date one.

If you do get the OCUK GTX 580, you may be in for a surprise...

I got the Msi twin frozR version :)
