Thanks guys, the two I mentioned are sets I already have (the Patriot was from my IB system and is what I am using in the x79 atm and the OCZ is in an old overclocked i3 540 system which has now become the 24/7 folding rig). My thinking had been even though 1333 is less than 1600 that 1333 quad channel should have better performance than 1600 dual channel but I guess I was wrong (glad I asked).
So its best to either stick with the patriot or buy a new quad kit then? what quad kits should I be looking at? Because I have a 3820 if I run it overclocked the memory is at 1.25x speed which confuses me as what settings to use, if I run the Patriot 1600 at 1333 speeds it ends up at 1666 which is too fast so should I set it to 1067 so it ends up at 133 then use its 1333 timings?
I never really understood the relationship between channels/MHz/timings to be honest (guess it shows) but I do know those new fangled DIMM's don't have ot be in pairs like SIMM's did
