hi all im thinking of buying either a ati x1900xtx or the new nvidia 7950 x2 i havent got the mobo yet and am thinking asus or dfi ? i also thinking Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 with 2gb corsair ram any suggestions would be helpfull

ps i have a dell 20.1 capable of 1600 x 1200 i think

you could save yourself a bit of moneyu and get an x1900 XT and clock it to XT speeds, and with that money saved you could get crossfire ;)

theres an xt here for 258 inc vat which I think is a most excillent deal

Welcome to the forums. :)

At that res id just go for the x1900 as its cheaper, and will easily cope at 16x12, and will tide you over till you need to upgrade again to a DX10 card, id only go for the 7950 if gaming at uber resolutions on something like a 30 incher (ohh err :D ).

The X1900XT will last ages, don't bother with the XT-X model as it's only an infinitecimally small margin better and is absolutely not worth the extra outlay.

and you can clock an XT to XTX speeds anyway :)

So which card would be faster, an overclocked XT or an overclocked XTX?

I heard that the XTX cards were "Cherry Picked" - not exactly sure what they mean by that. Do they just put the bad ones in the XT ?

Cherry picking is when a processing core shows better than average performance than average during the testing phase, and these cores tend to go in models like the XT-X or factory overclocked cards like the ones with OC or XXX Edition in the name.

Why a cross fire version when you mentioned you might go the Core route? Can Core chips be used on Cross Fire mo-boards? Just wondering.

Answered my self - yes you can with this board:
DFI Infinity 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-020-DF) :D
