Hello all,

I am relatively new here, never posted before but have been reading these forums for a little while now and wondered if anyone would be kind to spec me a new build.

I have been doing a little research, and also getting very confused as there are so many opinions on which bit of kit to use, so this is what im looking to get out of the rig within a budget of £1200 +/- £100:

Upgradability - i would like the option to be able to add an extra GPU / other components in the future, hence i've been looking at PSU's larger than 550w

Case/PSU - exterior design not all that important, just the ability to keep all of the components cool and cables tidy. The room the pc is located in can get quite warm, so cooling would be key.

Use - Primarily for gaming, would like to be able to use it for new releases for as long as possible, with games such as Planetside 2 & Arma 3.

Monitor, keyboard & mouse - Not required, i am looking to run games in a resolution of 1920 x 1080p (HD) on a 24" monitor.

Storage - I would like to run the OS and some other core programs on an SSD, for the rest a 1tb HDD should be fine.

OS - Windows 7

I am basically looking for the best "bang for my buck" in a machine. Thanks for your time and looking forward to the responses!

reasons for parts, psu will be ok for another card, memory is ok for now but with 2 extra slots can always add more later, home for win 7 and not really need pro, good vga not the top but price v power its a good one and can add another later, hdd 6gb with plenty of space and a good sdd will keep things fast and plenty of room for o/s and apps, while case is older, it's very good for cooling, i like them a lot, have built 4 with them before xmas, might even have one myself :)

this is for starters, all the big boys will now do you a proper one, enjoy, could spec you a amd one (less cost, bit more heat but just as quite so could give more in different area's) but all will laugh and give you 1000 reasons why not to have it, so wont bother unless you want the choice

Thanks for the spec, looking at intel only builds really. Looking at the spec you have provided, i will probably get the 16gb (2x8gb) kit.

Do you recommend any specific cpu cooler or is the stock one adequate?

depends on if your overclocking it or not

put in the K version of the chip and m/b clocks well, but if you are doing it then swap cpu for oem version and i'll spec a good cooler

Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev C CPU Cooler (massive but good)
Zero Infinity Phantom Knight CPU Cooler (it's what i have in gaming pc)

+1 for your build over mine

cable management i do myself, well most do, even if it is a feature of a case, fans placement and build quality means more to me

corsair makes some great case and psu tbh

Corsair case definately does look good, i see it has USB 3 ports too. Have taken both these rigs into consideration. Looks like the ATI cards seem to be more popular here than nvidia ;)

Another additional question (this will be my first full new build, have upgraded machines in the past, but still relatively a newbie at this) i have a few 120mm fans spare, may put one or two on that corsair case, if i did this i would presume i only would have 1 slot free on the mobo for an additional fan? Would i need anothe fan controller to power more fans? (i know this sounds a bit stupid lol)

Here's a spec from me - the case is very good for airflow, extremely good in fact and is full tower so nice and roomy :D

The Gpu is not just a case of popularity, rather than better value/performance.

In regards to a fan controller, I would`nt worry to much about this at the moment. When you add another card, start OCing and adding more hdds, then I would look at possibly adding more fans, as the temps in the case get higher. But the build( the one I specced for example) as it is, will be fine with the fans already installed.
