Its designed for maximum performance and OC ability, so I think power consumption was not on their agenda.

I'd assume it's so people don't get it confused with the stock R9 295X? That or AMD wouldn't allow them to call it a 295X for some reason

I would love this card, I think it has to be one of the best looking currently available. Unfortunately I simply can't justify (or afford) spending that amount of money on a graphics card, no matter how awesome it is.

most likely because it makes more sense than AMD's silly name, the 295x2 should have been called a 295 or a 290x2, not both.
