Noticed pipex are doing up to 8mb, so i went on their checker to test my line. AFTER the test a noticed a tick box had appeared that told me to tick if i did not want any marketing/advertising phone calls. After the test there is no way to submit this info, as i had already run my number.

2 days later (today) i receive 9 marketing calls this afternoon and i never sign up to recieve them. Beware of this if you use this speed checker :/

So annoying!

I've had exaclty the same problem. The buggers won't leave me alone.

They also didn't take kindly to being told that I'm on the Telephone Preference Service and that they shouldn't be phoning me.

TPS isn't an instant fix, it gradually improves with time (3 months before you see any real change). However combine TPS with something like Anonymous Caller Rejection (ACR), an NQR directory listing (forget X-Directory) and you are in for a quiet life. Yea it's not perfect (trust me I know it's limitations) but i've had one sales call in circa 4 years.

Are those things you can sign up online for? Forgive me I have no clue :)

ACR is normally a service you pay for, it's a line feature like voice mail or call waiting so you'll need to contact your telco. You can turn on or off from your handset. It is sometimes provided free if you have had significant issues with unwanted calls/police involvment but that depends on who your Telco is. It has certain limitations and can be bypassed by someone who knows what they are doing but in combination with the TPS it's effective against random sales people who don't think they have to screen marketing calls via the TPS lists.

NQR is your directory listing and is changed free by all UK Telco's, it's the difference between the person handling the directory enquiry request confirming that you live at that property but have decided to keep your number private or with NQR they will deny your existance on the planet let alone at that property.

In short both probably require a call to your telco.

I also had this happen to me

Anyone else noticed that PIPEX has been really slow? I'm going to have to complain I think and threaten to move ISP's its ridiculous. Normal HTTP downloads from various sources all transfer rates @ 40-50KB/s sometimes even lower and im suppose to be on 2MBps
