Just discovered this absolute gem of a game a few days ago and I'm completely hooked!

A spiritual successor to the Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander games, it's still only in alpha but plays very well and feels nice and polished. It's also 100% free!

Are any of you folks playing it? If so do you fancy a match I'm getting a little jaded at the AI stomping me to death :D

Thanks for the heads-up - looks interesting!

No problem pal, fair warning though the proper AI called (I think) Barbarian is probably the toughest in any rts game I've played. Impressive considering it doesn't cheat.

Literally had a 6hr game last night, I thought it was a stalemate as neither of us could build units fast enough, it then started targeting my naval structures, I literally couldn't get a foot hold on the water despite lobbing nukes left right and centre. Nevermind though I'd built a significant airforce and my base was so well defended nothing had penetrated. I was about to launch my 500 tier 2 fighters and bombers when it happened... over 1000 naval units pinged on sonar while at the same time 6 Titans approached from the opposite direction. My 500 planes vanished in seconds, my shields fell almost instantly and my nukes got shot down as they launched, all 20 of them. They just steam rolled my ***! It totally suckered me in. Cracking good fun though.

It looks like there’s no unit cap which is good but I was reading the tutorial and - dare i say it - it looks like it might be too complex. Too many different units off the bat. Other than that it pretty much looks like a rework of Supreme Commander.

Discovered this at a LANParty the other week, and have been utterly hooked since. Been playing a few hours each day and loving it.

Very much a modern remake of Total Annihilation rather than Supreme Commander. Same base units, factions etc, but if you are familiar with SupCom you'll get along fine.
If playing solo and trying to manage land, sea, air etc - it's easily overwhelming by how much choice there is. But most games, certainly in multiplayer, are team based. And the general approach is you specialise in a role. Be it front line spamming of bots/tanks, pure air, pure navy, pure eco & tech.
Having a whole lot of fun playing MP team games with friends against bots (they mostly don't want to do any PvP), and jumping into some public lobbies where I'm generally playing front line right now - which is the general recommendation for newer players. I seem to be doing a reasonable job there! The general big team gameplay of holding the line at the front with Tech 1 units long enough for your allies to march past with high tech units is very satisfying. Just frustrating when you have a lacking backline. Had a game yesterday where about 15 minutes in a backline player had just built a handful of T2 rapid artillery tanks to support at the front and nothing else - hugely expensive units and way less useful than 10x as many normal tanks would have been for what we needed at the time!

I honestly don't find the game too complicated at all. There's none of the issues from the Supreme Commander or Planetary Annihilation games here that I can tell, so far anyway.

Yes there's a large selection of units, there's not as many as the other games I've mentioned above. There's a little bit of a learning curve, you can't just spam tanks to win but I'm quickly learning as a solo player what works for me and what doesn't.

I now know the importance of a large navy, I now know its important to build ballistic missile defence early, I've discovered the ai will lob nukes quicker than me, I've discovered I don't need to build 10 ICBM launchers to try and break their defense I can just use an emp launcher first.

I think there's a few improvements that could be made, an additional unit or building here and there but not much.
