I remember VERY briefly playing Divine Divnity when it was released, but didn't have the patience for it -- it was rock hard.

Any idea if playing/finishing that would be a helpful prerequisite for the story etc. here?

Divinity Divinity is far better than BD not to say BD is a bad game, but they kinda made it worse. DD will be a classic of it's time i'm sure

As for story, not really it's pretty much a new story

I played the sequel recently and it was alright. A bit generic and rough round the edges but I enjoyed the story... and dragons ftw.
