Last week I dusted off my BF1942 anthology disk set and installed it in my Vista. Patched it to 1.61b and surprisingly everything worked out of the box, no problems. I then started installing few mods and that's where things got really miserable. Most of the BF1942 mods from a vast arsenal of mods on the net just won't work for me - mostly crash to desktop when loading maps.

- DC_Final works without hiccups but DCX9 crashes to desktop.
- BF1918 2.6 works but BF1918 2.7 Final crashes to desktop when loading maps
- Eves of Destiny and XWWII works and so do Finn Wars but that's about it - practically all the rest of mods I tried just won't work at all. Here's list:
Forgotten Hope v0.70, DCR Final, DCFX, Home Front, Silent Heroes, Who Dares Wins + hotfixes, Norwegian Resistance, Galactic Conquest, BF Pirates and half a dozen small mods like BF1861 etc.

Tried booting into XP and install couple of mods - Galactic Conquest and Forgotten Hope and they dont' work in XP either, so it's not Vista related as such.

So my question really is - since a lot of people like me, bought into BF series because of the mods, not the clumsy 5 maps in campaign loop main game - do most of these mods even work at all nowadays, or were they just abandoned at some point by developers and work only with specific mid-patched or pre-patched BF1942 or on specific set of drivers in like Windows 2000 or something? In short - is there any point for me to keep those mods on my drives, bother with googling up old cached pages and trying to figure out why they don't work or is it just the case of "they worked once, they don't anymore, don't bother mate, just move on to BF2"?

I would say move on to bf2 dude.

I couldnt get a lot of the mods to work on bf1942 when i tried a couple of months ago, this was with xp pro 64bit.

BF2 has a lot of the mods out now and their looking pretty good.

Projet reality is very good on bf2, turns it into what it should be ;)

Dcon is ok. and i havent tried many others to be honest.

i know a few peeps who still play 1942 avidly because its a far better game than BF2 they seem to have no problems, ill check if they are on vista
