Posting this for someone else to try and help them out ... so Ive cut and pasted the exact question ...

'Hi everyone just gotta ask WHAT THE HELL KIND OF SYSTEM DO U NEED TO PLAY THIS GOD DAM GAME i bought this game today and you must need one hell of a system to play it.
I got 1.5 gb of ram a 7300gt superclocked galaxy gpu, x-fi sound card xtreme gamer edition and 3500+ amd 64 and even on low graphic settings im only reaching about 65 fps using fraps is anyone else getting the same prob or am i missing something any suggestions will do '

Thanks :)

your friend is a pillock if he thinks 65fps is unacceptable on a 7300GT with only 1.5gig of probably miss matched ram.

he is lucky to be getting that.

i run at 1280X1024 @ max detail full AA/AF on an X1900XT512 with opteron 148 @ 2.9Ghz and get 60 to 70fps. at those fps its smooth as a whistle. go tell your friend to quit crying over something that he should actually be happy with.

the basic crux of it is if he wants better fps at higher quality settings he could do with dumping the 7300gt. a 7600GT with 2 gig of matched ram would be more appropriate, that will get him max detail + a little AA.

i dont mean to sound harsh but really, 65fps and he calls that bad... come one now... :)

Think he knows he needs a new card as he was asking in the server last night what everyone was using atm ... dont worry bout it ... hes thick skinned...

If he replies on other forum ill paste it here ....

I told him Im using a X1950 XT (with e6600) myself and have no problems so he has already mentioned a X1950 pro :)

well personally i would go for the matched 2 gig of ram and the 7600GT as opposed to spending it all on an X1950pro. if he can afford the X1950pro and the ram then thats even better. but sort the ram out. he needs 2 gig to run high quality and he is losing dual channel mode by only having 1.5gig and that hurts A64 AMD cpu`s as they take great advantage of dual channel.

His reply :

'hi everyone thanks for the advice please tell me what u mean by the matched ram (do i need two of the same ones or just get rid of the 512 and replace with a 1 gig) and the frames per sec r maxed at 65 most of the time its about 15-25 and sometimes as low as 9 is there any thing i can do apart from spend up to 200 quid on a new card and ram '

:)

BTW I just cut and pasted this as before ... he hadnt seen your reply about ram .... I dont think

well if he already has a 1 gig stick, if he can get another gig of the same brand and speed memory then that would be a cheaper option. pop them in the sockets next to each other to enable dual channel mode. if he cant then simply sell the old ram and buy an already matched pair or 2X 1 gig sticks of the same make even if its just generic stuff.

as for his fps, that does seem rather low even for a 7300GT... how much has he overclocked it by ? can you get him to run CPUZ from here http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-138.zip

click on the tab marked "about" then click on "HTML DUMP" save the file and upload it to the net using www.yousendit.com post the link to the file here and we can take a peak at his current system settings :) also a screenshot of his task manager would be useful so that we can see what the hecks running on his system.

i know with his current CPU, a 7600GT and 2 gig of matched ram in dual channel mode he will definatly get high quality with a good fps rating as my friend has the very same in his PC. what resolution is he gaming at ?

oh p.s. bf2142 hates certain firewalls, i have to turn mine off or i get real bad stutters.

His memory info:

Memory SPD

Module 2 DDR2, PC2-5300 (333 MHz), 1024 MBytes, A-Data Technology

Tell him to register here and also to check out the This week only section for an upgrade.
A matching 2Gig of Ram and a better card and he will be sorted.
Once registered here he can have a read up on how to clock that 3500 he has and get the best advice for the above Hardware for his budget.

Cheers m8

Im sure he will signup .... infact Im surprised (u reading this Reaper ?) he hasnt already as he buys from OcUK :) Anyway here is the rest of his spec:

Tell him what ya think ....

To be honest changing to matched set of RAM isn't going to suddenly give a massive boost in performance in gaming at medium/high resolution. I'd say 5% increase tops and that's assuming he were to get an extremely high end GPU.

By far the biggest boost will come from a graphics card upgrade. Moving to a x1950pro or better will give a gigantic boost in performance and be by far the best investment - 1.5gig ram total isn't too bad even if it's not in dual channel.

in case anyone doubts what I'd saying, try disabling your dual channel (sticking one stick in the wrong slot would probably do the trick I guess) and see if you notice a huge decline in gaming performance at your normal playing settings.

You right Hangtime and he could get away with just a 7600Gt and a bit of clocking and tweaking. It just all depends on his budget and how high he wants his settings.
If he just wants to play it on Low but stable then what he has and a 7600Gt will do. If he wants High rez and High settings then 2gig and a x1950pro is the way to go.
What monitor is he using by the way and what PSU does he have ?

guys, trust me, the ram + the 7600GT would be more than a "just get away with" solution. no clocking required.

2 gig of matched ram with a 7600GT will allow him to play at 1280X1024 max quality with 2X AA on Battlefield 2142. i have an AMD venice 3000+ system with 2 gig of ram and a 7600GT, none of it overclocked, at a clients that i built that does just this all night every night without a problem.

his ram is mismatched and inadequate and i would bet money on that being a factor in dragging down his fps when he runs at even low quality on BF2142 as his hard drives probably caching constantly.

2GB of RAM and a 7600GT or 7900GS would be good. I run BF2 at 1920x1200 with 4XAA and 8X AF with all high settings with over 50fps.
