Hello chaps,

I have recently started playing BF:BC2 online (only level 5!) and have been enjoying thoroughly but I have just hit quite a big problem that is not letting me play the game online.

I have got the following set up
Q6600 @ 3.1 Ghz
4 GB PC8500 DDR 2
60 GB OCZ Vertex 2E + 500 GB Samsung F3 HDD
Gigabyte 460 GTX 1GB OC
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
Virgin 10MB connection

Basically I used to be able (only a couple of days ago) to play happily at 1900x1200 on any decent European server with no lag or problems but since a couple of days ago the search server option doesn’t work as it doesn’t bring back any results and the only servers I can play are the ones which appear on my history ones. There they appear to have a ping of 50s-70s but when I go in-game my ping goes through the roof (200-300) making it unplayable. I often also get the Can't connect to EA Online. Please try again moniker when searching for servers.

I have looked around on google and seems that some people have hit similar problems but I couldn’t find any solutions.

Has anyone experience those problems and if so how did you get rid of them?

Thanks a lot

For the pings the in game one isn't the same your familiar with, 200-300 in bad company 2 will actually be a low one 50-70s, they use a different system, not sure how its worked out.

For the search what anti-virus do you use?, I have Kaspersky and had to put a fix in to be able to search for servers in this, hear the same for other anti viruses, try google the name with Bad Company 2, should find something.

Thanks for the reply.

I use Avast! but in any case why can't I search for servers in the server browser screen? and why the massive lag?

Yeh same issue, could only see history but couldn't search any. Easy way to find out if its your anti virus is try turning it off then use the search. Soon find out soon enough if its that.

I don't think it's got anything to do with firewalls, or antivirus. It's EA's crappy servers. If I try and play during the evenings, I get this message all the time. If I play in the mornings or the middle of the night, I can always get a list of servers.

I would have agreed with you mate if a day or two before it hadn't been working like a dream but it was. It's a new system too, well old one but new hard drive, new os and new graphics card. So that might be it.

So things seem to have improved after uninstalling Avast (a lot!) but not completely back to normal, I have still got some noticeable lag in-game. I have heard that deleting the BFBC2 folder in my documents should help. What AV are you using now LokiS?

Ok, so I have tried two fixes for lag but they have done nothing!

Tried disabling the Windows Media Sharing - nothing, lag as bad as always!

And also tried this fix...
Open regedit
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
There will be an entry for network performance throttling, default value is 10; set it to FFFFFFFF hex (willl look like 0xFFFFFFFF to the right of the entry)
Reboot

And nothing, has anyone got any other ideas?!

Kaspersky. Are you having FPS lag or internet lag?, can't really help you much there other than the normal update drivers etc. I would be careful with some of the suggested fixes your getting like editing the reg files unless you really know what your doing.

I can only suggest checking the official forums, try reading through here http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/members-helping-members/ . Wish could help more :(

on some servers i get a mega frame rate drop...its fine then it goes from 80 fps right down to a slideshow 10 fps for 3-4 seconds..then it goes back to normal. I was thinking it was to do with a new install of windows I did last week...but only seems to be some servers I get it on. Weird!
