Quite a while back i bought a sennheiser gsx1000 and a pair of sennheiser 598se open back headphones.

Now before this i originally had an Asus dgx with dolby headphones i believe it is, and ive always felt that card seemed better, more precise at pinpointing footsteps/gun fire directional sound, compared with the gsx.

Ive been reading a lot and as always confusing myself. I like the idea of the external usb/driver less style i have in the gsx, but ultimately im after better performance in both pinpoint accuracy and at time sound volume.

Is the creative E5/G5 or X7 or any other sound setup going to help more than what i currently have?

im open to suggestions up to the £200 mark please.

Thanks for looking.

just tried bf4 and although i can pick up airplane direction and bullets, i couldnt hear footsteps at all until they were so close they were already shooting me.

Worth looking at the Sennehsier GSX thread first on how to get the best out of the GSX, if you haven't already. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/sennheiser-gsx-1000-thread.18749909/

Shankly1985, in either that thread or this I'm sure will offer some help in getting it set up correctly. He rates the GSX above anything else he has used for positional accuracy.

If you have got or do get it set up as good as it can be and you still prefer Dolby Headphone, then I suppose it comes down to preference.

Not much can be done about the lack of higher volume if you find it isn't loud enough. For £200, Sennheiser should have put in a better amp and DAC or charged a lot less for the GSX as it is.

Anyway; if after the above it's still not for you, then the best bet would a Creative device with SBX prostudio. SoundblasterX G5 would be a good choice for about £130. Very good headphone amp. Same one that's used in the ZxR and Xonar Essence sound cards.

Thanks, ive setup the gsx numerous times and have indeed been in that thread, not sure what to do, if only i could test a device locally.
