OK guys

- got a new PC, installed BF2, played singleplayer on various maps, went online (omg, how disparaging, but nothing that I didn't expect with my experience of every new online game).

Any advice? Any noob servers about? Anything? 11 deaths last night 0 kills, because I couldn't fly a damn Plane or chopper off an Aircraft carrier :D

I read a tutorial today, so at least I know I can try and get myself invitied to a squad now.

What's with All seeing Eye and in game browser? I'm used to Quake III, where you refresh the server list on ASE and double-click - your in.

I have a mic, but to be honest, is it essential? Not too sure the wife wants me randomly calling enemy APC or ffs as and when. Just want some casual on line fun with similar people, not even fussed about this ranking business (done it with WOW pvp - not healthy in my eyes)

Thanks in advance of any advice. From a Quake III and WOW fugative ;)

Rather than practice on single player, select multiplayer /create local & then you can have big 64 maps & no-one to beat you to the planes /choppers.

select respawn to lowest setting so when you crash you can respawn quicker,

Keep changing teams each time you die & then the plane will be there waiting whereas the one you just crashed on the other team won.t have appeared yet

Practice makes perfect, you'll pick it up in no time. It's a great game!

As for the mic, it's not essential, but it can be useful. Me and a mate sit in a squad and chat to each other.

& if your using mouse & keyboard don't forget to select 'invert mouse' for planes & choppers only

meh I just jumped right in an started playing in big 64 player city maps, a good way to get points is try and get the gunner seat in the attack chopper

HOLD E AND DONT MOVE!! :p :p

11 deaths I thought that was pretty good. Even now I get killed quite a lot. Once I got killed so much in a round I earned the purple heart like twice or three times. ;) But it only shows up once

But it if you need help i will squad with you. I use a mic although you don;t have to if you don;t want to. It just makes things a little easier like if there is an enemy hiding behind oyou I can tell you otherwise I have to stop what I am doing and type it in and even then you might miss it.

Make no mistake I am a noob as well but I like squadding. What server do you usually go on?

I am usually on the 50klick or superserver. My xfire name is goredwings19 and my bf 2 name is the same.

And don't worry if you are new to the game as I have been playing for three months now and I am still as bad as when I started.

The best advice I can give you when flying a plane or chopper is:- if in doubt, ram it! :)

I do it all the time now and my planes stats have gotten better for it. Although it does make me unpopular with the veteran players. What do I care. I am helping my team to win.

Practice is the key, we were all noobs when we first got the game. It just takes time(I'm a medic whore)

You could play on infantry only servers then you don't have to worry about the aircraft. If the aircraft is what you are after then, find an empty server to practice on.

That was 30mins trying to get off the carrier in various Aircraft, not kills by the enemy :p

I think it was just a bad map all together for someone new - trying to get off the carrier with no flying experience first round and then the next round I was fighting for the chinese and chose and bad spawn point, hence running for miles as I wasn't in a Squad, now I realise I can ask for an invite to vacant places in Squads, and more tactical awareness of spawn points should help some. 'Invert Mouse' should help some too :)

Want to get some nice k/d ratios? Start claymore whoring like I do. Hey, if its not against the rules, then why not?! :p

But seriously, if you ever want to learn the fine art of claymore whoring and immensely annoying sniper tactics then just join me (psybience) on the 50klicks server; wouldn't mind a noob along side me, will come in handy when I need to clear claymores on roof entrances.

Next thing is - in game browser doesn't offer much except high ping, laggy, full servers, but all the servers on ASE seem to be version 1.0. I'm on the lastest 1.03 version.

1.04 is the latest version of BF2

You better believe it!

I think also I have played against you once or twice and you snipered me. Let's just hope I don;t get into a plane and you are in a jeep or vodnik. i will dive bomb you faster than you can say OMG n00b Rammer! :p

Ernie>DudeI never said that was by enemy kills either when I died all those times;) On warlord I once died 10 times in a round cos I didn;t know what button open the parachute when i first played it.

22 times cos i thought I had the magical ability to drive over mines when everyone else dies...don;t ask me.

And 15 times in a copter as it not a real flight sim it won;t be hard as flying one in a flight simulator game.

You think i would learn by now, wouldn;t you? nope the joys of being a noob :)

A friend of mine a few weeks back commented on how I improved. my reply was "yeah i only die 30 times ina round instead of 31":)

ive been playing the game since it came out but i never bother with the planes or choppers simply because i am a terrible pilot. my clan has a good pilot in it who plays flight sims constantly so we use him all the time :D hes got a thrust master throttle and joystick too so he really can fly well.

but for me, i dont have the patience, so i stick on the ground. best way to learn is to get yourself into a clan and work together on teamspeak, that way youl all be there to support each other which gives you the room you need to figure out various things as you play.

dont give up!! its a good game despite the fact that its got more bugs than a flea ridden dog, it really should be called betafield.

oh, p.s. if you are going to fly, make sure you have your mouse axis inverted for the chopper controls, and dont use a joystick unless its got rudder control, otherwise its useless.

pps. when fireing at someone, ALWAYS aim for their head and if your using a fully automatic wepon, fire in short rappid bursts, not one continuous stream.

To get off the carriers sharpish just pull right back and hit the afterburners. Even the Jet on the edge can be airbourne in seconds using this method. Just hold the nose up and kick the burners and away you go.
For praccy go on an emptyish 64 man server then when you crash the deaths won't count if the round hasn't started yet.

Mics help loads especially if you are noob. Just join a squad and quickly tell them AM Noob but here to help. The squad leader if any good will take your noobness into account and let you know what is needed etc.
Being Noob is No handicap in BF2 Anyone can kill Anyone :)

One server i can Highly recommend is the TOK server. I was on there the other day and even though i got Gold award and Expert AA raping there clan attack chopper they still remained a good fun bunch of guys. Plenty of friendly chat and no Crap no reason kicking and one hell of a fight.
Here's a link to the site where you can make contact and get there server addy.

It happened to everyone at least once ;)

I did it the first time i was ever commander, i just asked the server. oddly enough they mutinied after i told them :( heh

Don't bother with planes, most people who fly them are pretty damn good and you'll quickly learn it's the fastest way to die. Learn how to be a good chopper pilot and pick people up and quickly get them around the map. Come play on the 50k server, it's where i play most days. See some OcUK tags on there too occasionally. My nick is [GiMp]Windle if you see me just holler.
