bf2 crash to desktop

well i just installed bf2 cos i thought project reality looked quite smart, so i install the game, works fine, played it unpatched, everything fine.

then i download patch v1.41 and install, the i click launch the game, it shows the splash screen, the screen goes black, a few res ajustments later and it crashes to desktop.

ive searched google, most ''fix's'' seem to point out the monitor refresh rate not being 60Hz being the problem, but mine is 60 default and in the bf2 video.con file, it also says its starting at 800*600 @ 60hz which my 19" widescreen is definatly cabable of, but still CTD.

the problem seems to be to do with the monitor, but i dont know what to do

ive updated video drivers but still problem persists, any ideas? anyone had this problem? what should i do next?

Maybe a re-install of the game will help?

Delete your BF2 Folder in your documents, I had the same problem!

tried a re-install, same as before, works fine before patch but not after.

just deleted my bf2 folder in documents, still CTD

ill try change to older video drivers see if they work

Try D/L th apatch from somewhere else , not heard of the above problem

Download the 93.71 drivers for your card.
Use drivercleaner to delete the old drivers.
Instal 93.71's.
Delete the files in your BF2 cache folder.
Enjoy the game

My Documents/Battlefield2/mods/BF2/cache
Delete everything in there, set your ingame settings & leave it alone.

changed the drivers and tried it, still did same thing, then i looked for the cache but it doesnt have it, in the folder it has profiles and dmp, which is the dump made when it crashes, heres what the video file says, anything wrong with this...that could cause a crash?

Did you ever resolve this issue?
I have the same problem.
Not played BF2 since changing to 24" monitor. Just installed Forgotten Hope 2 (yay!!) and I get the splash screen - black - ctd.
tried the icon target line fix ie +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 but no luck.
'spose i should try a reinstall of bf2 unless someone knows how to fix this?

Reinstall + cmd line sorted it.
Tried FH2 out (which is why I wanted to get bf2 working again).........what a let down. worse graphics than vanilla bf2 and felt the same as the original.

Damn, mine started doing it now after a reinstall on new drive, thought it might be my no cd fixed exe so I reinstalled & played with the disk in but still CTD halfway thru a game playing as commander & my team winning :confused:
