Hi

OK saw a recent question in 'Sound City' and it was hijacked by da music peeps  soooo thought I'd post same kinda question here for my gaming buddies. I'm looking to buy a good-ish ;) (say as cheap and cheerful) headset ie headphones and mic for playing BF2 BF2142 and CS:S on teamspeak. Is it better to go with standard mic connections ie jackplug or go with the USB connections ? Another point is I dont use a soundcard so will onboard sound be an issue ? Cheers .

I've found in the past that, in general, the cheaper headphones are very uncomfortable (even painful) to wear. I would recommend spending around £20 on a headset for something reasonable. I tend to go with logitech myself, but that's just personal preferance.

Ok cheers for that m8 .... £20+ aint bad ... what about the connection , for that am guessing it will be jack plug? Is there any benefit in the USB type (Ok I guess they cost more but is it worth it ie. better quality of sound/speech or is this down to soundcard / onboard) Thanks again.

I have tried both the Medusa 5.1 and my current headset, the Sennheiser PC 160, and I can say the PC160 is great! I used to have a cheap pair of £5 headphones and they did the job but were a bit uncomfortable.

I know for the Medusa's the USB connection is worse than the regular connection, not sure if this is the same with other headsets.

IMO its better to spend say up to £40 on a decent headset that is good for music and gaming and is built by a decent company as in the long run you will be less likely to have to buy another headset in the future, but I always seek the best at a price I can afford in anything I buy. Onboard sound should work fine although I do use an Audigy 2 which is very affordable since it is quite old.
