Got into BF2 a few weeks ago (late I know), and started looking into the mods for it. Already tried Project Reality (not fun!), now downlaoding Point of Existence 2.

Any I should know about?

You just have to get better at PR, once you really get to grips with it you'l enjoy it. Make sure you squad up (look for the squad that is working closley as a team). You typically don't get as many kills as BF2, but its much more tense.

You might also want to check out Desert Conflict.

Thats the Desert Combat mod from 1942, made for BF2, right?

Correct. I used to play it a lot untill I got caught up in Project Reality. One of the reasons I love the game so is because of the city maps. Practically every building is open, that really adds a huge amount of depth to the gameplay.

I might give that a go too then. Only ever play Infantry maps on BF2, vehicles both bore and annoy me :D

I had a quick look at the site, Reality mod sounds fun.

What do i need to run the mod? Do i need all the BF2 expantion pks?
How do i connect to the mod, through Gamespy?

Regards

Mod has its own desktop icon to get it started, join servers same as you do in BF2. Just need upto date BF2 (1.41 at the mo).

Just played that project reality mod and i thought it was rubbish not very beginner friendly at all, and it runs terrible even on a e6600 , 8800gts and 2
gig of ram they were right about it being tense though you never know when
it's about to lag out in the middle of a fire fight tense stuff indeed :).
You can't drive anything, fly anything or shoot anything it seems without a kit
which no one will tell you how to get 15 mins of my life wasted.

I never have any problems running it, any lag I've ever had is to do with my connection or the server. If you don't adapt to the gameplay and treat it as BF2 you wont enjoy it at all. With all games a lot depends on the server that you're on, if it's a decent one with helpful players then you're laughing, if not, you're crying!

Join a squad, this is a must. Once in a squad you can now use the T key to request a kit. This is done at base flag points, rally points or the rear of an APC. You need the relevant kits to fly or crew\gun a vehicle, the officer kit also allows you to set a rally point when you are a squad leader (with at least 4 members in your squad). When entering a vehicle you have to do it via an actual access, i.e. the rear of the APC or through the hatch on the top of a tank. Flying helos is a bit of an art you have to wait for it to warm up etc. I'm not much of a pilot (much prefer infantry) so generally leave it to others.

For team\squad based gameplay I find it very satisfying. Generally I find the standard on servers quite high with squads communicating and working together well. It's not a run around frag fest but that's what I like about it, it's a lot more tactical. I love it when BF2 players come in bunny hopping (as much as they can) and you just mow them down :)

Then something is very wrong, I get way over 60fps at all times.

There is one map that will lag like crazy, if you are in a chopper and are flying over the city. Other than that, it runs a treat.

There is an online guide out there, if you don't read it expect to learn the hard way. It doesn't hand everything to you on a plate. The kits stops whores jumping from one class to another, you chose one role and you play it, simple.

If you're looking for a quick and easy battle, dont play PR. You have to devote time to it, it means using your head much more.

Been playing Eve of Destruction and Desert Conflict quite a bit recentley. Eve of Destruction is quite good but has limited maps

Bit disappointed really all the comments on here about how good project reality is then i try it only to find out it's rubbish oh well back to bf2.

Alright dude, I don't want to convince you. I see you don’t like this type of game. I will say though, you are wrong to say the game is rubbish. You don't like it, fair enough, but it is an incredibly well executed game that goes far beyond what is offered by the majority of mods out there. It isn't a shallow remix of BF2, it requires a completely new approach on the end users part. Oh and 15 mins is no where near long enough. I guarantee you have not seen what PR has to offer.

Got Desert Conflict, very nice mod. Get a bit of slow down on some maps, but other than that its good. Nice to have some anti-air to go with the anti-tank!

15mins isn't nearly long enough to find out what any game is like.

There's no way you could have come anywhere near to know what PR was about by playing for 15mins. tbh it sounds like you are the sort of player we don't want on our servers anyway so stick to the vBF2 mindless frag fest. :)

PS, if your system couldn't cope with the bigger more detailed maps of PR then you needed to have put down your settings or have a decent system. ;)
