quick question , how will BF2 run on a ATI 9800pro ? im thinking of installing it on my daughters pc as she has wierdly got into a few games over the last few weeks lol and has asked me to install my BF2 for her machine BUT she hasnt got a DVD drive in her PC atm so before i mess around swapping drives around i'd like to know if the game will actually run ?

9800pro
1gb DDR ram
939 3200 AMD
win xp

can you get it to 2gb? But yes it will run

spose i could but not sure whether to upgrade the machine tbh, she really only uses it for web/msn and this game thing maybe a phaze, knowing my luck i'd go out buy more ram and a 1950pro or summat and she wouldnt use the machine again  lol

Low Settings?!

I spent so many hours on BF2 with my 9800 Pro, It ran great on medium to high settings and that was with my 2800+ @ stock. You will need a least 1Gb of Ram, 2Gb for best performance.

I ran BF2 on a Athlon 64 3500+/1gb DDR400/9800pro 128mb fine at 1280x1024/0xAA/All high settings, except textures and lighting at medium. Was getting about 25-60fps, which was more than enough. Theres some brief stuttering at the start of game, but nothing major.

So you should definitely give it a try, just make sure you defrag and clean out all the junk startup processes (I had only about 18 processes at startup).

Yeh dependent on how quick your hard drive will be subject to stuttering at the start of the game. More ram *** :)

You don't need 2GB of RAM at all, with 2GB it loads levels a bit quicker and stutters less, but as you won't be running at high detail your RAM usage will be lower anyway.

9800Pro is fine for medium details easily.

I started my BF2 career on a 9800XT the old one (I think it was) & 1 Gig of ram & it ran perfectly. It ran better on medium as well but then BF2 runs best on Medium no matter what card you have. I have been through 3 cards since the release of BF2 & have managed to play it perfectly on them all.
It will run no problems at all with a few minor tweaks. Most importantly is reducing background processes & setting your system up to run cool when fully loaded.

By the way i have over 3000 hours logged on BF2 & am a confirmed addict of this game so i speak from experience Not from reading threads written by people who cannot set there own systems up properly.

that whoops the socks off what i was using, 3500 1gb with a fx5700.

Definately going to be acceptable performance low-med.

Runs fine. I ran it on a 9800 NP and Athlon 2500+ a few years back.
Be prepared to wait bloody ages for the game to load though. I think I clocked 5 minutes loading time joining an MP game once. Probably why I never really got into the game :P

Also ran this (years ago) on a 9800NP and Barton 2500+ and 2gb ram, ran fine med-high settings on a 17"tft native resolution.
Still a great game.

When I played BF2 it was on an Athlon64 3200, 1GB of RAM and a 6600GT. Medium settings were definitely playable, used to get a bit of stuttering here and there but nothing major.

Give the PC a good defrag with something like Defraggler or PerfectDisk after installing, and that'll help load times and stuttering.

cheers feelas much appreciated,i'll set it up for her tonight and see how it goes, shes mainly going to be playing over LAN with my lil lad anyway :)
