BF2 or BF2142

After looking at the different games people recommended me and not been able to get steam to work i have decided to bin the idea of TF2 and possibly go with either BF2 or BF2142 which would you guys recommend out of the two?

But i would awesome get tf2, i can spend many hours on bf2 but get bored for a week and have several short games of tf2.
 
I prefer BF2, 2142 was a good progression but there were too many issues.

I preferred 1942 with DC to BF2 for a long time but BF2 has grown on me, especially with SF.
 
Of course not. Plenty of people still play it, and quite a few on here too. I'm constantly going back to it, although my gaming PC is currently wrecked so I haven't played it in a while.

Not up to date with everything so not sure if it's already happened but there was talk of a new patch coming out for it too.
 
Yeah i guess, my only fear is that i will be far behind the skill curve.... about 3 years behind.... I might pick it up in town tomorrow if i get chance, any advice you guys can give to a BF n00b?

I have a quick play on BF2 pretty much every night but I reinstalled 2142 the other day and find it so much better than I remember from when it first came out.
I guess a few patches have done it good but i was on a server that crashed due to the game so i guess they haven't got it sorted 100%.
If I was going to got one then it would be BF2 with special forces add on.
 
I'd go with BF2142, BF2 was patched to hell after a small percentage cried about dolphin diving etc. because they lacked the skills/experience of how to counter those tricks (Check 'Battlefield 2 - Ode to 1.2' on Youtube if you want to see how fun the game used to be) and now with over patching you can't even do simple things like jump and throw a medic pack or ammo pack.

Add to that the engine was improved for BF2142 and when playing you can definitely feel the difference.

If it wasn't for DICE's over patching I'd say go for both. But in it's current state 10mins of BF2 is more than enough!
 
ROFL at all the BF2 fan boys. Why the change of heart when anyone asks for the choice between the 2?

Usually most BF2 boys bash the huge number of glitches / bugs / hackers (the list goes on) in their own game!

2142 has far far fewer issues, runs better, looks a mile nicer and is s far ahead in terms of balance its crazy! Dnt get me started on the air power in BF2.

Op - If you do go BF2 fair play, its your choice after all, but if you get on a map with jets - your dead - for most of the round! enjoy!

I was playing BF2 only last night and there are still loads of servers around. The graphics are dated but the gameplay is awesome... choose a 64 player map and grab a sniper rifle = happy days :D:D:D

BF2142 = :mad:
 
Oh, i forgot to mention hit detection! Shoot behind a running target to hit them!
Shoot the body / head = miss = BF2! lol
 
happens in bf2142 as well - hit detection on any online fps is always not gonna be quite right at times.

bf2142 - more infantry focused

bf2 - vehicle/planes focused

Heh, hardly a skill curve in BF2. Give it an hour and you'll be killing with the best of them, my only advice is to avoid vehicles until you master a gun/setup type you enjoy. First medic gun unlock is godly, use it!
