Over the last couple of days while playing BF2 ive been having a very quick stutter followed by a split second of audio feedback it sounds like a "bbrrr" noise and its driving me mad so i thought i need to sort that out , reinstalled BF, still did it , reinstalled audio driver , reinstalled graphics driver still did it, did a system restore from a image drive , still did it

and now im wondering whats going on , could it be a hardware issue ? but then i thought well punkbuster updated a couple days ago and ive read ppl having issues , could it be that , so thats my question

could punkbuster cause somemthing like ive described ?

yep.. PB did quite a big update, some servers still havent updated so you will get kicked.

as for the sound issue.. its possible, go to evenbalance and open a support ticket about it they will help you pretty well.

Yeah, one round I spawned and it said I had an out of date PB, I spawned prone and couldn't stand up for 10 seconds lol

I didn't update it myself but it seems to have gone away now.

Apparently it some new new PB setup, look in your processes can you see PnkBstrA.exe running?

Yeah i have that process running even when i first boot he machine, i'll check out evenbalance and see what they say

I was pondering this today at work and thought about what punkbuster actually does when a game is running , it scans your RAM i think ? does it ? if so maybe as it scans its that thats causing the issue , perhaps if i slackened my ramtimmings it may help , does that make ANY sence at all ?

control panel.
administrive tools
services

look down services and you should find 2 different pb services which are set to automatic, just right click on both and set to manual job done:D
Thanks for that dude. Though it was unnecessary for it to boot with windows

What does it actually do though? Will it instead start automatically start when BF2 starts?

Having the pb kicks here still, despite running the PB update software.

im currently having a similar issue too.
i get afrozen screen and looping sound, cant exit or anything so have to power down and restart.
thought this was down to my connection speed, was between 6.4 / 7.6 meg but now down to 3.7 meg.
i did run de bugging tool and it gave me the graphics driver as the problem.
have been using the latest 8800 official 6218 drivers since release and no probs up till now,

If it says driver issues, then it has nothing to do with Punkbuster, so get outta here. :p

Otherwise, pb is really doing my head in. I have tried the pb update software on its own, tried the 2 standalone update html files, tried the manual/auto thing and still get this msg:

Now, I last attempt before emailing pb some harsh words is copying all the pb files into the pb folder in the bf2 folder itself.

That's the same msg myself and a couple of clanmates got but PBupdate fixed it for us.
Have you checked some of the regular BF2 forums? Offical EA one. Bf2s.com TotalBF2.com
Common probs are generally covered there
