Hiya,

I play BF2 a couple of evenings a week, not peak times, maybe say 10pm til 12.

Im getting fed up with sudden spikes...Ie

I'll be driving a tank forward, then the next second i've driven into a cliff, even though the cliff is to the left of me, and ive been driving straight!
It doesnt happen that often, but often enough to be annoying.
I've not turned the tank or anything, its like i've jumped into a different part of the game!

It sometimes also judders really bad if im a gunner in a plane/helicopter

I look at my ping and its always at things like 14-15ms, which is hardly anything! And certainly not enough to cause lag surely!?

My system should be able to cope with it im sure!? Its all on 1280x960 with everything on max.

My connection is ADSLmax, but at least 3 weeks into it now...

Any ideas folks?

Zonealarm used to cause me lag in BF2 when it was blocking access attempts.

But I was getting about 10 access attempts a second lol.

possibly overheating..

I used to get this on my gfx card if i ever ran it at 7v and the room temp was high, cranked it to 12v and it was fine. Also used to lag if my CPU was overclocked (again probably due to heat), but overheating can possibly be the issue.

Ive been getting the same thing on BF2 and was actually going to post a thread about it , ive also been on adslmax 3 or 4 weeks, ive been trying to fix the problem for a couple of weeks now and its slowly got better but i still get the odd jutter here and there , it deffinetly a online problem as i tested it on a LAN server and single player and didnt get any problems at all

I even get the jutter on a empty online server , so ive got a feeling it maybe punkbuster , ive read their FAQ and last night tried a fix they suggest which is to start the game up then go to task manager and set BF2 process priority to below normal then try to play , it worked for me last night on a empty server and i will test it properly today

I'll let you know if it works or not

In the mean time u can try to eleminate other possibilities by trying your game offline and see if you still get the jutter , if you dont get it in single player then its very unlikely its your p.c/graphics.

Let us know how you go on

well i had an hour on a busy 64 player server today with the BF2 process priority set to 'below normal' and didnt get any judders , it really seemed to make a difference , im not saying it will fix your problem but its worth a shot

Remember that you have to set the priority every time u play BF2 coz the setting doesnt save.

Now i'll have to figure out how to make the setting change permanent

Press the end key on the keyboard and type:

renderer.drawfps 1

then press enter. That'll show you the number of frames per second so you can see if its that.

Do you have NOD32? I found the IMON scanner made my BF2 lag like mad, I switched it off and it has been fine ever since.
