BF2 Problems getting VOIP to work??

I have the Plantronics DSP 500 Headset and when setting up BF2 it picked it up fine np.

Now when i am in game and in a squad i hit the V key to talk and no one seems to hear me, I even hold down the V key and nothing seems to happen??

It seems to come up with a sysmbol when i press v but only if am the squad leader but still no one can hear me.

Also how do you make other peoples voices louder as i can barely hear them, i have the VOIP to max in the options as well.

i found i could barely hear peeps when they talked, dont think there is a suggestion to that
