BF2 promotion question

Hi all

i have just started BF2 and got my first promotion last night (private first class or something)

what i wanted to know is how many promotions do i need to get a weapon unlock?

and when i do get an unlock how do i choose what i want

You get your first unlock (2 if you have played special forces) at 500 points.
The next time you login after getting promoted you'll get shown a window of all all the first level unlocks, select one and pwn away.
