BF2:SF "Revert to current version" Error - PLEASE HELP!

Hokai,

I get BF2 Special Forces addon. Install, play single player for an hour to get to grips with all the gadgets. Great, all works fine.

Go to play online and it says "Punkbuster Error: This server does not allow you to play with modified game packages. Please revert to the current version" (I think thats right).
Fine, so I re-install the 1.3->1.4 increment, still no joy.
Slightly frustrated, I unistall everything BF2 related and re-install and re-patch. Reinstall method was BF2, BF2:SF, 1.22 Patch, 1.22>1.3 Incremental, 1.3>1.4 Incremental (I spent 2 and a half hours downloading the 1.4 full patch last night which didn't work, hence the incrementals). Still nothing.
As a last ditch attempt I selected "Same Version" and "Same Mod" options in the server filter. Lets just say many profanities were bellowed.

Stange thing is though, BF2 on its own works fine

Please help. Otherwise I'm going Mac and buying a 360 lol at the very least I shall be taking a trip back to game tomorrow!

Well its a seems to be a Punkbuster error mate, as far as i can tell you have installed your games and patched them correctly in the right order.
You should try updating your BF2 Punkbuster mate from http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support-bf2.php

give it a shot, and let me know how you get on.

I tried updating PB using the PBSetup progam but it still doesn't work

When you had BF2 installed previously, did you install any form of mod at all? when i say mod i dont mean Special Forces, there are lots of little mods out for BF2 that ppl tryout, i was wondering if you tried any of these mods?
AS far as i can tell, its obviously something very minor thats triggering this problem.
