BF2 TOO SLOW!!!

I have just today got bf2, before i updated to 1.41 it was running fine. But now it just goes really slow when i load up matches, and i mean really slow it just wont work. This is in single player aswell!

Has anyone got any suggestions?

You could try the following:

Browse to:

[drive]\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\

And deleting everything in the cache folder. Then let BF2 optimise the shaders again when loading up a level (this will be done automatically)

Let us know how you get on.

I found the difference between 1GB memory in my sig and my 2GB G.Skill pretty huge. BF2 is a total RAM hog

i will try that, but it shouldn't take that long to load otherwise hardly anyone would buy it - im regretting it now.

i have tried the cache thing, but it didn't make much difference although it is a bit faster.

Does it have to optimize shaders for every level/map?

Nah it doesn't. It only had to do it for me the first time I ran it

mine is still going pretty slow. I have e6300, 1gb corsair xms2, sata hard drive and a 7600gt. IS there any tips to help me speed it up because it is really annoying.

Strip it out including reg entrys, re install & patch then defrag. Bang everything on mediums, clear all your processes to minimal then play and leave the settings alone.
See how it runs then & be aware that anytime you mess with the ingame settings you will need to clear the cache files as stated above.

I don't think it took properly & you have been messing around with the settings. BF2 likes to be loaded to a spacey drive, set up & played. It does not like being messed around.

Loading up matches mainly, a slight amount of lag in game though.

What ingame settings are you using ?
If you want a quick test then set all to mediums and clear the cache files then defrag your system and try the game.
If you do all this then come back with results the thread may move on & we can help.

Time it, I'll go and time a load up on my computer for comparison

When I had 1GB ram and an X1950XT it was quite slow, but I got rid of the x1950 and got a 7600 and 2gb ram - now it's fine That's why I suggested the ram.

Have you tried putting the game on its lowest settings - not as a permanant thing, but just to see if it speeds up load times?

Okay, here's my battlefield 2 load log:

2minute 40sec wait for authentication after login
12:42.40 - Connect to server. Map load starts
12:45.18 - Verifiying Client
12:46.20 - Finally gives me the option to Join Game.

That's a 3 minute 40 second load time, with 2GB ram.

Then the map restarted and I had to load all over again.


BF2 is a very bad piece of programming that was rushed out by EA, who care more about money than the quality of their games unfortunately!

That sounds ages. I will time how long it takes from the moment i press the icon till the moment i select my class ingame & will post it back later.

I do need to know what ingame settings you are running though stopsign104.
You really need to set All to mediums, clear the cache files & Then defrag. There is no point defragging and then messing with your settings.
