BF2 VOIP problem

I have BF2 and for ages I haven't been able to get the VOIP working. I have checked the "enable" box in the sound options, as well as move all the transmit/recieve sliders about. Sometimes when I join a server I can hear others and talk in a squad, but it may only last a few seconds, then it goes dead, I can hear or transmit. Then when I go back to the sound options the box is UNCHECKED!!!! This happens everytime, sometimes the box gets unchecked before I even get a chance to join a squat and then when I do VOIP dont work. I know my mic works fine because at the same time I'm on Teamspeak, and I know it isn't a clash of programs as the same thing happens when I'm not in TS.

Anybody got any ideas what is causing this problem? I have an Opteron 146 running @ 2.8Ghz but it does the same at stock speed, 2GB of ram, ASRock Dual SATA mobo (onboard sound - no soundcard).

probably the drivers for your sound card may need updating for compatiability issues with bf2

A guy on our forums had a similar problem, Im guessing you have AC97 audio?

sae thing happened with me, i just left it off and used ts

I had mine working the first day, but i felt a pram talking to the pc. do a lot of peeps use it??

Thanks, after visiting the EA support page posted on your thread, I found a solution. I ran dxiag and under the sound tab turned the hardware acceleration from "Full acceleration" to "BASIC acceleration". Problem solved, VOIP now works. Good stuff.

I use TS aswell but only with other clan members, if I'm in a squad with people who aren't in my TS it makes it a bit difficult to talk to them. Also I couldn't even hear things they said over VOIP, which was frustrating when I know they were trying to tell me something.

Yep I usually only play BF2 with other people I know, and then I use Teamspeak, makes the game easier as you can communicate with each other far better and organise squads, call for backup, warn team mates etc.
