Hi

Ok started to get this happening on a few maps lately .... only appears to happen with BF2 not CS:S. Anyone seen it before , any ideas ?

AMD 4000+ 2GB ram X1900 GT 256mb

Thanks

Could be your graphics card overheating! Check to make sure the GPU fan is clear. Also try playing with the side of your case off to see if it's your case air flow.

OK will do ..... should also have stated that this only appears at this section of the map and if I come from the other direction you don't see the black triangle at all.

I don't know why, but when I saw that black triangle I started laughing.

Possibly because I know your pain. In COD2 a certain map would always do this sort of thing. Rostov, I think it was.

My problem turned out to be a faulty graphics card and I believe the memory was heating up too much as well.

Have you tampered with the default settings of the fan speed on the card? It could make all the difference.

Hi Slogan ... No I havent touched the fan settings or o/clocked it. Its a HIS IceQ X1900 GT 256mb ... though I did notice a little dust in and around fan/cooler unit. Is there a way of turning up fan speed ? Cheers

My old 9800Pro had the same problem when it started to die: You'd only see the triangles one way and not the other. I'd refit your gfx hs/f or replace it completely.

ATI Tray Tools should do the trick. You can set fan speeds for the temperatures that your card reaches - my X1900XT at default was running far too hot and the fans only really kicked in when the card was in the 90's (c) - which is a bit too late for me.

Alternatively you can set a percentage speed for the fans to run at and test it that way.

Hope that helps/works.

Cheers mate I'll go google a d/load on that .

Hopefully it does the trick. The X1900XT was my first experience of ATI, but from what I gathered (and other people said at the time) they usually do run hot.

If cooling the card better (with the tray tools) doesn't work, then the advice elsewhere in the thread could also work, such as re-seating the card and blowing out any cobwebs.

For some reason, nothing I do will get BF2 to run anymore :( It used to work perfectly with everything maxed, but now I hardly ever get to the menu screen, and if I get into a game, everything is laggy and slow. I have tried re-installing it but it just crashes when loading :(

I don't get it, the only thing I have changed is my keyboard & mouse. Such a great game, but it has been buggy since the beginning and that has put me off ever getting BF2142. Such an amazing game when it all clicks, but I can't be arsed waiting 1/2 an hour from deciding to play to get into a decent match...

Could be a driver or patch problem. Since I installed the Cat 6.12 drivers for my X1900XT I've been getting similiar polygon flashing to what you see in your screenshot, except with me it happens for the first 30 seconds or so of a match and then disappears; as if it is reloading textures into the memory or something. Sometimes the polygons are white, otherwise they are black. I tried to resolve it but didn't bother in the end because it only happens briefly at the start of each match and the game is otherwise completely stable, plus I don't experience artifacts in any other games.

I also very occasionally get these extremely odd, 'impossible' polygon artifacts appearing :p . They usually appear inside buildings and are completley static. Its hard to explain without a screenshot but needless to say, they are very weird.

Don't even get started on the 'Haunted Shelter of Fushe Pass'.

Believe it or not, its still there unchanged, I get the odd glimpse of it during flybys in the attack chopper and still sends shivers down my spine everytime.
