I overclocked my Q6600 to 3.2GHz. Then I ran BF2142. Frame rates capped at 100 and fluctuate between 90 and 100. After quitting the game, I found the CPU temperature jumped from 34 to 48 averages out all 4 cores. Surprisingly, the GPU didn't rise much just a few degrees from 49.5C to 51.5C.
Now I fall back to stock CPU speed which is 2.4GHz. In-game I could only get 64 FPS at amx that's understandable coz the game is known to be CPU bound. But then I can see the GPU jumped from 48C to 57C.
So to speak, if you have a great great CPU, then loading is transferred from the GPU to the CPU, CPU does most of thejob for you. And if you have an average CPU, it is the other way round.
Now I am thinking by this logic, should I get a E8600 with 3.3GHz out of the box?
