bf2142 and x1800xt

My point being battlefield 2 is a picky game and does not follow 3dmarks scores as such.

I understand that, just if he was getting say a score of 6000 from his x1800 then that would point to a problem related to the card, but where as his 3dmark score is spot on so seems the problem is elsewhere.

Not to mention 3 or so other people with the same graphics card and similar specs are getting perfect performance from the game.

With everything on medium, 4 aa 0 af im getting a really bad fps. below 40 which is unplayable for me. Would this improve if i get a x1900xt 512mb? im worried i would have to upgrade to ddr2, better cpu and the rest aswel, thanx

an X1800XT is more than enough to max out the settings of 2142 @ 1280x1024 and get good frame rates. what resolutions are you using

Im playing them in 1280x960 as i cant get it to work in 1440x900. Everything on low, i still get fps drops when seeing explosions ect. Im willing to spend money and fix this so i can play in high settings, but dont know what to get as everything i purchase never sorts it.

Hmm that is very strange, there is no reason why your cards performing that bad at that res. You should be seeing approx 80/90fps with battlefield fully maxed out on all maps with your rig. I wouldn't throw money at it untill you can work out what is holding you back as you'll probably have the same problems again with a x1900xt.
Has this just started to happen or has the graphics card just been replaced??

i just tried playing 2142 with everything on high, 1280x960 with v-sync off. I get as low as 25.

I cant work this out, It just seems impossible for me to be able to play a decent game with all the graphics high with a smooth fps of 60/70. Its dissapointing

If i knew what was slowing it down i would replace it within 2 days with something twice its price. I really dont wanna have to completly rebuild as it costs a lot of money to do so, specialy with xmas round the corner.

But i need to get this sorted because its causing me a lot of stress, yeah sad i know

reinstall your motherboard platform drivers, make sure your not overclocking the PCI-E bus in the bios, reinstall the graphics drivers. what ever the problem is, its not your hardware.

ok i was reading something about this the other night.

What are you using to judge your framerates, cos i read that fraps just doesn't work - slows everything down for some reason - everyone don't shoot me if i'm wrong - but i think i read it on totalbf2142.

Also is your puter slow when you play singleplayer? if not then it's gonna be your internet connection that might be the problem - lost packets etc..

Don't have any issues with FRAPS here. Use it all the time and its caused no slow downs for me.
As for internet connection, I thought this was covered earlier in the thread, but re-reading it, SameSuspect never replyed to what connection he is using or if the problems are only in multi-player or in single player too.

Well that rules out your internet connection then
Do you have any other games that you can try, just to see what the performance is like in them??
Just guess work now, but is the x1800 new?? have you changed from nVidia to ATI?? Maybe conflicting drivers????

try going to mydocuments > BF2 > Mods > BF2 > Cache

and throw into the recycle bin every folder in there, next time you play BF2 it will reoptimise shaders again, this may or may not help but is worth a go.

yeah i have formatted prently of times after getting this card. I got it around july time so it isnt that old. Im thinking its either the cpu, ram or psu

Am I the only one that saw him say that less then 40fps is unplayable for him???

I used to play the Empires mod for HL2 and was happy when it went up above 15fps. That was on my old 9800Pro.

Your eye can only see at 11fps. It stands to reason that any fps above say a 15 at its lowest would not be noticeable.

I'm fairly sure that the illusion of movement kicks in at around 25-30fps, that's why TV and films are shown at that speed.

Although thinking about that, maybe that's how game manufacturers get away with saying that you'll only need a geforce 4 mx / Raden 7000 to run FEAR / Oblivion / Prey... :D if you only 'need' 15 fps for it to be 'playable'.

*Slaps you around the face*

We dont need this arguement again, and trust me, when a FPS is running at 15fps, you can notice it. Hell, if it drops to 40 i can notice it.

Well, cpu is the same as mine and is more than fine - even though its clocked a little low ;)

Ram - 2 gig is spot on and can't see it causing your problems, but running memtest for any faults.

Psu - you havn't stated what this is, any info on make/model and amps on each rail - 12v, 5v, 3v, (can be found on side of psu) would help.

yeah, below 50 is still playable, but when your as good as me at fps games you can only play to your full potential at 60+ fps.
Have to agree with that, but even though 50 is playable, on you rig it should be hitting almost double that and wouldn't be too happy till it did.
