Right ive upgraded my PC so i can now play it with out lagging like a biatch

Running it on this:

5200+
3 GB Ram
X1950 Pro

What kind of settings do i need for this to run smooth as, im out of touch with all these newer games :/

Ive had a few games on the single player and dont really have a clue what to do ive attempted to get on the multiplayer but i dont get any servers up for some reason

Could someone give me a quick run down of what all this is about so i can get it on with the killing, i get the basics healing/vehicles and what not just sont get how im supposed to move up the rankings

Ive knifed some poor dude so i got a medal for that and top kills and that but i dont seem to have moved up at all rankings still on recruit and 0 :/

TIA :)

Can't rank up on single player, you have to play Ranked multiplayer matches. As for the servers, perhaps you have a firewall in your way.

X1950 should see you on all high I imagine, my X1900 XT is 60+fps at all times on high, 1680x1050 with 4xAA.

I think there is some sort of tutorial in options or something for titan mode. Regardless, even if you don't know what you're doing just get into a game, follow people, shoot bad guys and don't be a ball bag. Should pick it up in a few games. As for ranking up, just try to kill enemies and complete objectives (as soon as you know what they are). You get more points for getting pins or awards in a round, but that's not important, just keep playing and you'll rank up.

Try playing with the settings all on high and see how you go. Gameplay wise it is easier to play with shadows off and dynamic lighting off as it is distracting. With shadows off it is harder for the enemy to hide in them but it doesnt look as good. I find AA the big killer fps wise so if you can live with slightly jagged edges turn it off.

i think with multiplayer games its not necessarily a great idea to run with everything on maximum :) even if your rig would run it easily in SP.

While these two probably technically speak the truth I feel obliged to argue. Do not listen to people who tell you to lower settings for greater stats.

This isn't part of the fun for me and I honestly can't understand how it is for anyone else. Play on the highest settings you can, knowing full well you are adding to the community value in that you and other normal players understand that shadows exists for a reason and add to the experience. Do not play for stats.
I meant to have a bit more of a moan about this subject but I can't remember what I was thinking about, bit tipsy.

Runs fine all on high with AA off :)

Bloody thing keeps crashing now though, halfway through loading the map :/

Been fine up until tonight

A post I got from another forum about this crashing fixed my issues....

Ok, the default folder as you know is C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142. Get to this folder, then click "Tools" and the "Folder options". Now click "View" and make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button is ticked, then scroll down a little further and make sure that "Hide Protected Operating System Files" is UNTICKED!!!

press ok >

you will see a file called 'radial.cdb' >

rename to 'oldradial.cdb' to force a re-download of ads.

problem gone.

i hope you dont mean my post..... because it had nothing to do with lowering settings for greater stats.....

The more stuff going on on-screen..explosions, emps, nades, 64 players all bunched up fighting put lots of stress on the client connection (at least mine anyway) Added to the instability of the server and some players tweaking their connections as well.

Multiplayer gaming puts way more stress on your system than SP gaming equivalent of the same game.

Basically id rather play with the most stable connection and game performance rather than the best looking......
