BF3 Beta won't launch - was working fine

Hoping that someone may be able to shed some light on my problem.

BF3 Beta suddenly won't launch. Until 10 minutes ago it was workign perfectly well. The game crashed out (saying that the graphics driver had recovered from an error, leaving BF3 running but just a black screen) and ever since the game won't launch.

I've rebooted several times, but it's made no difference.

I click to join a server (any server, doesn't matter which) and the game manager pops up, gets as far as "initializing" and the BF3 icon appears on the taskbar, then the icon vanishes and it's like I never clicked "join"...

i had this i fixed it by going to C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Battlefield 3 Open Beta\settings & unchecking read only on each one.

weird but hey it worked for me.

Happened to me twice, given up as the only way to get it working for me was to re-download it.

Haven't tried the above method though.

Seen the re-download method elsewhere but don't fancy a 3GB dl again!

Trying the first suggestion now

Interesting....rclick and "Check for update"...it begins downloading the whole 4GB again

Wasn't 4gb before....was it?

Gonna let it run and see what happens later

Wish it would save the damn DL somewhere!

Thats what I had to do, but when I looked in my "Origin Games" folder, it had 'Battlefield 3 Beta' and 'Battlefield 3 Open Beta'! Both exactly 3.91Gb and some Mb.

Turns out it was only using the 'Beta', not 'Open Beta' folder, deleted it and played, but same thing happened again yesterday and I just gave up. It wanted to download the whole thing again

Checking for updates seems to just download the whole thing again, not actually update the game.

Oh yeah...just looked in my origin games folder and the one it's downloading at the moment is the Battlefield 3 Beta. Open Beta is the one that was already there though in my case.

Well this is pretty bonk....4 hours of redownloading BF3 and STILL the same problem.

Did you try and edit your FoV?, I had the same issue after doing so, and since the edit is in My Documents re downloading the game wouldn't of fixed it. In any case, go to My Documents\Battlefield 3 Open Beta\settings and delete PROF_SAVE_body. You will have to redo your options and controls again though.

I can't get the game to run. Goes to black screen and says connecting.

Had Alpha running okay, but this Beta is carp.

Thanks Lokis, this was the problem, although I'd re-downloaded it three times before I found it out, lol! What a ****

Anyway, edited FoV using Notepad, and apparently it breaks the file integrity, editing again (after third re-download) using Notepad++ and it's fine now.
