BF3 Help needed

Just got BF3 today and I'm having problems. I installed the game via Origin and when I go on the game there is no multiplayer option and when I go to join a game on the website it just says joining server for ages and then makes me log into Origin again and says it's in 'offline' mode and the same occurs. Any ideas?
