I think its just inefficient level texture storage, like all the shadows and lighting are baked in so when they change something like the location of the tree or shipping container slightly they need to rebuild the whole level and ship it out again,

patches are released too much, even for naff legacy games. TF2 seems to get patched every other day.

Guess thats a good thing.

So games companies may not have become lazy they may just be working more on the development than fixing issues right away.

If TF2 is a naff legacy game, then there is something wrong with the world. Also, you would only get updates if you had it installed...

Lots of patching is a bad thing how? I'd rather have lots of small incremental patches that fix things regularly over one that takes ages to come out and is huge in size.
