ive tried both high and ultra and changed various settings but still getting the spikes 1680x1050

Do you know what your CPU usage is?

Try overclocking it some more, also overclock the CPU-NB to 2600 / 2800 Mhz if you can. see if that helps.

ive overclocked to 3.6 now and im not sure about the cpu/nb because i cant actually see the mhz, theres just multipliers? what shall i put it on? cheers

Overclock your processor.

You can also try this.

Create a user.cfg (save as all files not a txt file) file and place it in the battlefield 3 main folder.

Copy and paste these commands in the config.

RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 1
RenderDevice.VSyncEnable 1
gametime.maxvariablefps 59

Does that improve your situation?
Just tried this , still no luck :c thanks though!

Hit the ` key, then type RenderDevice or part of it and you can hit Tab to auto complete, then you start typing ForceRenderAheadLimit or part of it and you can hit Tab to auto complete that part as well, if you then hit Enter without adding a numerical value, it well tell you the current running numerical value.

Do that for all 4 one at a time.

just done this, seems that the config didnt work for some reason? but when entering these into the console the game did run a bit better, less lag spikes but still getting them, moved settings down to high but still getting a disapointing 40-50 fps on big maps

settings on low doesnt make a difference, same fps and performance, as for Render.PerfOverlayVisible 1 the cpu numbers are lower than the gpu, i had way better performance than this with 1 6850 and my [email protected]..... argh

EDIT: high settings now im only getting about 30-40 fps... both gpus are at around the same usage, havnt seen them going over 65% yet...

To rule out vram issues try running your crossfire cards at the same settings that you were using when you played BF3 with a single card. If you don't get any more lag spikes/FPS drops then start turning up some of the settings one by one until you get the same issue then roll it back to the previous setting for optimal balance between IQ and performance.

Running BF3 with the MSI afterburner overlay would help as well (shows you GPU statistics).

tried this, also tried high settings again but now getting even worse performance @ only 30-40 fps , havnt seen the gpu usage on both cards go over 65%

just had a try on single player with ultra preset settings, not even dipping below 50 fps.. high preset settings i stay at 59.1 fps(vsync) excellent performance compared to multiplayer :(

thanks for that info humbug, my cpu usage stays at around 98%. i have 8gb of ram arriving in the morning so maybe that'l help, if not then i guess im just gonna wait for amd piledriver to be released and grab myself a new mobo and cpu

If your CPU usage is at 98% then there's nothing you can do I'm afraid. If you're willing to upgrade an i5 is your best value option.

ah that sucks, its only bf3 that im bottlenecking in really though, other games are fine, i cant really afford to go the intel route, plus ive always stuck to amd, one of the newer pile drivers should cope fine? thinking of getting one of the six core ones when theyre released

gonna bring this thread back up instead of making another, would a AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz be decent? might be able to get one for £75, With a bit of overclocking will it get rid of bottleneck and last me a few years? cheers

Get more system ram.
4GB system ram is not enough for crossfire. You are getting lag spikes because of HDD caching.

I have, im running 8gb now, have been for about a week now :) I'm getting lag spikes mainly because of my cpu bottleneck as ive seen using msi afterburner. I just need to know if a 1055t would be sufficent
