Hi ive got 2x2 gb of ddr3 1600 memory and bf3 is stuttering, ive changed settings and its made no diff, resource is saying ive got none free.

Thinking of buying 2 x2gb more or 2x4 gb, what do you think?

will 2x4 and 2x2 gb be ok together as theres not a lot more in price.

Cheers

As long as the timings and stuff are the same it's fine (I think)

If not just buy yourself an 8GB kit, as they aren't that expensive anymore.

I would guess that just 2x4GB would be better, as your chip is OC'd filling more memory slots might make the OC unstable.

So try selling your 2x2GB and put the money made towards 2x4GB.

I had the same problem with 4gb DDR3 1600mhz Rip-Saw, stuttering after a few minutes on Ultra, high settings fixed the problem but I went out and bought another 8gb on the same RAM for £41.99 and it has made a massive difference, not issues at all on Ultra now and has even improved the FPS. ;)

I have 2x4 and 2x2 gb, pc runs fine but i guess now ive lost dual channel?

Would it be best to remove the 2x2gb or doesnt it really matter.

Thanks

Erm, I might be misunderstanding here but as far as I know as long as you have matched the 2 x 4gb together (eg DIMM Slots A) and the 2 x 2gb (eg DIMM Slots B) together you should still be running dual channel.

IMO 6GB should be the absolute minimum these days, 8GB is probably the sweet spot with anything more a bonus.

I have to agree.

Running BF3 and other applications I'm sat at 3.95/4.00GB used, i don't encounter any stuttering which is surprising. Probably because it's paging over onto my SSD. Which is why i get away with it.

Tempted just to get some of the Corsair 16GB that OcUK currently have on sale, though it's total overkill. :p

I run BF3 on my rig which is in my Sig and it runs no problem. 8Gb of RAM in your system
will be fine, I do know that if you have a pre overclock profile on the motherboard and
you put more memory in the system it can mess up the overclock profile on the board
and just set the processor back to normal stock speeds.

See how you get on though
