Hi, what would be the minimum graphics card I would need to run bf3 on top settings?
Both ATi and nvidia please

Just my mate thinks he will need a £400+ card at least and I think he could get away with a £200ish one

Thanks

7850, or 660ti - it's the VRAM that's needed, so go for 2Gb minimum.

This advice is based on the assumption that the rest of his system is relatively up-to-date. Whilst some will swear their OC'd Q6600 is fine, an i5 with 8Gb ram and SSD will help get the maximum display options

I thought it was the streaming processors that's needed
But nevermind lol
I thought 2gb minimum anyway
So would them cards run top games quite easily yeah?

Weird, I play 1080p and max settings and gpuz shows vram never near 2gb. Most likely depends on your res. The only vram game hog I've played is Skyrim with mods.

Push your Gpu and CPU core power for best results with Bf3. Vram as third in priority.

With risk of argument, I play at 1080p and I have seen 2.1gb vram usage in bf3 in multiplayer on the 64 man am maps.

2GB is enough, but if you're that concerned then here are two cards i recommend from AMD and Nvidia (i'll also post the 2GB versions too).

2GB:
-AMD.
-Nvidia.

3GB:
-AMD.
-Nvidia.

I used a XFX HD 4770 for quite a while on BF3 playing on low at 1440 x 900 res which worked fine. Moved up to 1080p and it just about coped but started to bog down quite a bit when things got hairy. Then i upgraded to a second hand XFX 6970 and runs on highest settings perfect

Well I had a 7850 before all this Voltage crap started happening and I overclocked it to 1200Mhz and I could run BF3 on average 50-55FPS in Ultra, 4MSAA @1080p. That's for a card which costs £150. Just make sure you get a 2Gb VRAM model and it should do you fine.

Your CPU also would matter, you don't want to bottleneck the card.

I have 2x GTX 580 3Gb in SLI, and occasionally get tearing & micro stutter - only in BF3 though... I usually disable one of the cards to play smoothly... All other games work perfick in SLI

My machine is amd fx4100 @3.6ghz
8gb ram
6570 cheap ish gpu

My mates machine will be (unfinished)
Fx8150 ( I believe )
8gb ram
Either a gtx680 or a 7800 or above

I know I will need to upgrade, but aslong as its 2gb+
And a good card we shouldn't hance problems

I'm not experienced enough to be talking about voltage etc haha
My apologies

2GB is fine.

1920x1080 (And 1200 previously) Ultra, rarely see above 1.8GB usage max and as has been debated previously whether it actually is even actively using the reported amount at that time is questionable.

Runs fine on high settings on a 1gb 560ti at 1920 x 1200 which you can pick up for about £170.

£400 is overkill.

If you want ultra @60FPS, then I'd look for a Gigabyte 7950 and clock it to 1100-1200MHz or any other brand that let's you play around with the voltage. For nVIDIA a GTX670 should be fine.
