BF3 on a new ps3 probs

My brother went and got a new ps3 to replace his old 1, which was having problems reading discs, anyways now he cant play BF3, also due to his impatience he went and bought an online pass off the psn and that wont work for him ethier, any ideas what he can do as hes pestering me to help.

If he had an online pass registered to his account he shouldn't have had to have bought another one from PSN. I did the same thing on BFBC2 with the VIP code, basically they said to me that I was not eligible for a refund due to me not contacting them immediately, and due to my impatience buying another code. Is he sure he's activated the account on his PS3?
 
Not too sure, he got his new ps3 yetserday ( saturday) and he tried playing bf3 with the same account on his new ps3 but it wouldnt allow him online, so he got a psn £25 card and went and bought the online pass from the Ea store when he got back from the football and according to him he got an error, he later phoned me saying that some ppl are having problems with psn store at the moment ( according to the sony forums) i told him he should have contacted EA/Dice on thier forums but he didnt listen.
 
Was his other ps3 for a different region? I know a lot of people have had problems due to their ps3 region or game disc region, easy to fix from a google search if it was.
