bf3. on the el cheapo

no one knows what bf3 needs yet. Not until at least the open beta comes out. Once EA release the proper specs then you will know what to expect. All these bf3 threads about GPU's but no one knows what bf3 will and will not need just yet.

Just sit tight and wait a bit longer and you will know :)

I believe it is safe to say if you can max/med settings on bc2, you should be able to at least low/med bf3. Just a rough idea

The only thing we have to go on was that the demos played at events where done on a single GTX580 at 1080p. However, there wasn't any info on what settings where used.

I suggest the same, wait for the open Beta and there will be more of an idea but then again it's still in BETA stage so even then it will not be accurate, especially where drivers are concerned.

I played the alpha with the 5830 before upgrading. The alpha played great on that, it even looked amazing. I am told the alpha had no advanced settings turned on. So if the alpha looked amazing without any High settings on, I can not wait to see it on full settings in real life, not all these youtube trailers etc. It will look amazing I think. GOW3 this month, bf3 and Batman steel book edition pre ordered for next month. Life is good :)

It probably would. My card broke just as the alpha came out and I managed to play it on my old 8800GTS whilst I waited for an RMA :)

Would a 280gtx play bf3 ?

I haven't got loads of money
Should be ok if you are willing to run the game without AA or only 2xAA and may be a bit lower on other graphic settings...but a better question would be is your CPU up to it?

Lacking in graphic grunt can be compensate by lowering graphic details...but lacking in CPU grunt (i.e. if you are still only a old and slow dual-core) that's not much you can do about it, except for trying to overclock it or replacing the CPU with a quad-core.

I'd be surprised if it won't run at all - though both you and me will probably be at 1280x800 res and low details until we get something better :P

That said, last time I played an FPS game I think my monitor was a lowly 19" 1280x1024, so it'll be just like I remember :D
