Hello I just having a look at the Performance Graph in BF3 and am just wanting to understand how to read it. I not got a clue lol
What Am I ment to be looking for? I understand you dont want big spikes like showing when I tuck a screenshot in one of the images.
thanks

So am I right is saying my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu, because my gpu is below cpu? I have an oc cpu to 4.4Ghz and gpu is 1000/1500.
If so is it upgrade time to ivy bridge? :-)

Ideally you want the lines as close together as possible, with as few spikes as possible. If you average render times are close then you have a good match. Using these render times its possible to work out what is the bottle neck.

With my i5 2500k@ 4.6ghz and a 7970 @ 1200core 1700memory my cpu is slightly bottle necking my 7970 in battlefield 3. I can tell this by the render times as my cpu is slightly higher, even after using the pre rendered frame setting of 0 (to ease the load on the cpu) and disabling tripple buffering and vsync. (which all increase cpu work in bf3)

To achieve this id advise on a minimum clocked cpu of 4.5ghz for an 2500k and an overclocked GPU as far as it will run stably if you want full ultra @1080p with 4xaa.

You can also play around with the render ahead limit in game, find out which option is best and then add that you a user.cfg file and place it inside your bf3 folder. That way it will remember the setting. You can use values 0,1,2,3.

The higher values may provide more fps but will introduce mouse lag.

If you have a dual gpu setup a value of 1 is ideal.

Yep i think its part of bf3 is not perfectly optimized as there are parts on certain maps where gpu usage drops, fps goes down indicating a bottleneck. However that is probably due to the engine. Anyway spots for it are the hotel at G on the roof. Look towards the car park and fps will drop.

All the B2K maps are pretty heavy on the cpu as well.

Not really. You have a good match with similar values. You might see an increase of minimum fps in cpu heavy parts if you bumped up your processor a bit.

Thanks I OC CPU with the asrock OC profiles has it sets it up auto for you, My mac voltage is 1.34v that good? temps are 60c-62c max
Next profile is 4.8 scary lol

Also i'm running a i5 750 at 4.00 and a 7970 at 1100/1575 how much boost do you think i'd get going to a 3770k at say 4.5 and my 7970 at 1200/1600 (which it's stable at - i just need to sort out cooling first)

Run the graph when in game, go onto B2K maps and head to places were you see all the maps. And see if your CPU spikes bad, if it dont you will be fine.
