i like Battlefield and have only briefly played number 3 on my brothers computer which he built himself ages ago and is still good by todays standards in away and so i thought id go on that 'can you run it' site and minimum my laptop is more than capable, however the only thing that stopping me playing is the version of GPU i have???, it has 512mb 5.0 5.0 which is 1.0 more than suggested and the same deal(5.0 for this one) with the recommended apart from the GPU needs 1gb..

mean i can and probably will get it for the ps3, but i have steam and i know pc versions are somewhat different..

just think its silly that model of GPU is the only stopping of the game given its more than suitable.

It's not only the gpu , your cpu is dual core and you need a quad core processor as this game is CPU demanding .

However, dice recommend 1gb of VRAM but the joke is on ultra it goes up to 1.5gb lol

You certainly do not need a quad core cpu to run BF3. In fact, theres very little difference between the desktop i3 dual core and i5 quad core. Also, if I'm reading that right, your laptop has a mobility HD 5470, which as you can tell from here, isn't very capable for recent games, let alone demanding games.

this is though, i get all ticks other than graphics as for the recommended i need 1gb GPU, but i need a totally different card with same specs which i dont understand lol, i did a test on BF2 and can run that spot on, does say i have 2.2gb vram where as for 3 it says 512mb lol..

i can have 2.2gb vram through hypermemory if its not set to that already, but its only the graphic card model thats the issue..

it looks like if i want to play BF3 on a pc then i need to match my laptop but with a more suitable card pfft

Yes a dual core is fine to play bf3. But once you play on high / ultra on 64 man maps that's when it's going to hold you back. Many threads on this topic mentioning dual cores struggling to sustain 60 + fps.

BF3 is known as a system smusher so you really shouldn't be surprised that a 512mb mobility 5470 isn't gonna cut it. :)

Have you seen how much money people chuck at full blown rigs just to play this game smoothly?

i can play mw2 spot on as on that site its 100% and in away that is a demanding game, i havent tried mw3, but i have it on ps3 so not all too bothered..

but as i said my laptop meets the requirements for minimum and partly recommended, just the fact that my GPU is that model and not another on their list which is why i could never play it on my laptop..

+1 it amazes me too how many people splash out to keep up to date with bf3. But yes it is a system smasher It's now been known as the new stress testing software lol. In some scenarios my overclocks pass prime 95 but 10 mins of bf3 just crashes my system lol.

Yeah call of duty is a totally different games engine that recommends dual core. The frost bite 2 engine is one of the most demanding game engines today and is way ahead of the call of duty engine.

i dont get it, mw2 spot on, but for black ops and mw3 i need a better CPU??

i need Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better? i thought i5 was better than core 2 duo?

i used to play WOW, but my laptop couldnt meet the recommended, but still played spot on.

First bite 2 LOL

It's Frostbite 2

Gaming on IGP (integrated graphics) hasn't really been a viable option till AMD released Llano and now they have Trinity. These APUs make for great budget laptops as they are surprisingly gaming capable because of the improved IGP.

my laptop is classed as a power and performance machine, its not designed to be a full on gamer, just somewhere in between, so i dont expect it to be superior, it holds its own like, just i dont get why my card meets the requirements yet only a model type gets in the way?

is it something to do with chipsets or game developers just picky?

Is yours the GDDR5 or GDDR3 version?

The guy winked in the title of his reply, I think he got my grammatical joke. Please don't edit my quotes. That space could have been a pause for dramatic effect for all you know ;)

If the OP searches youtube, he will see that IGP even with 1GB dedicated RAM would be no good either. Everything would have to be set to low and the res would need to be reduced aswell.

I'd be interested as to what the native resolution is for the display as well. I doubt it's 1080P so he won't be getting the best from the bluray drive either.

The console versions of BF3 have been heavily "nerfed" to run. FPS is locked to 30FPS, the number of players is also much less than is possible on PC. My bro plays BF3 on PS3 to game with his mates and to be honest I'm not taken with it. The "texture pop-in" I find very distracting, the consoles are really on their last legs now. Considering they are what 6 to 7 years old now? I'm not surprised.

There are free to play titles, yes even a battlefield title which is a remake of battlefield 2 I believe. Not to mention playing old "classic" titles or even using emulators. Maybe these options would help pass the time while he saves to build a budget gaming rig?

You're talking about a game that you need a 580 to max @ 1080p :/

Yes it takes HIGH specs to play, but this is the sort of PC game we WANT. Differentiation from the consoles is integral to the continuation of the PC platform.

^ This, you'll be hard pushed to find a decent laptop that will play BF3, the system I've just built cost £500 and it plays it on ultra. I was under the impression most mobile GPU chips aren't too good.
