As the title really, looking to get an online shooter, which is best out of Battlefield 3 Planetside 2 and CS:Go??

Or, if you think that is a stupid question, what are the strength and weaknessess of them?

Planet side 2 is F2P and is epic in scope but it can be a bit dull by yourself I've found. With an organised group on comms it can be an amazing experience.

BF3 is also still a great game, looks great and still has quite a lot of players. As with PS2 it is much better with a few people on comms. Any time my squad is on comms we usually get ace squad and my squad are top four and win if its conquest.

Never played CS GO so can't comment.

My view is the same as MissChief.

The scale of PS2 is what makes it breathtaking at times but, and it's a major but, the game isn't very well optimized, if you've got a weaker rig you might struggle to enjoy it to it's full potential but if you've got a decent setup I'd defo try it.

BF3 is a really good game, although it has been dumbed down for the masses, since it's earlier incarnations.

I love the way there's so many different guns that you can use that let you play the game how you want to play it. It's just missing something of the scale, squad comms\depth it used to have in the past.

I never really got why people love Counter Strike so much. It's a good game, fun in short bursts, but doesn't really do much for me. I haven't played GO though, so can't comment on that but I'd go for one of the others. CS is far less demanding on your rig though than the other two.

depends what you want from a fps game

bf3 is okay but a console type fps

csgo is a bit more console type fps than original but still better than bf3 and also has the matchside sort of feel

planetside i guess if you like it you like it i think its utter garbage :D

so id go csgo and maybe try planetside as free

I've played all 3, the size and scale of PS2 is simply amazing. But as already said, it's much better when playing on comms. However, it is free, so why not try it as your not losing out on anything?
Battlefield 3 is still popular, I still play it, and the Aftermath expansion pack is great imo. End Game shaping up nicely as well.
Finally, CSGO I've played a few hours of but not much. It's good to just jump on and play a round or two, quite a fun (and cheap) game tbh.
It depends what your looking for, but I'd definitely give PS2 a go as it's free.

CSGO is more arcadey I guess, a true pick up and play

BF3 a lot more time consuming and requires more dedication (I think?), only played for a while

PS2 needs some real time investment and not easy to pickup ( for me atleast!)

3 completely different games

bf3 - look at me I'm in a tank
ps2 - look at me I'm a mech
csgo - console type version of cs

They all seem console type games compared to old FPS games like the original CS and quake series.
CSGO is ok but seems like a console port of CS / CS:S

I agree with what DG said tbh

BF3 and PS2 have slight similarities.

I have played all and think the only one I'd play at the moment would be CSGO but only in a proper team or mix on teamspeak/mumble etc.

BF3 was ok when it first came out, got boring very quickly & then they released the DLC and 'boosts' :(

PS2 to me seemed ok, pretty big scale but lots of bugs & seemed geared towards a pay to win model. :(

I wish people would stop spouting the PS2 pay to win thing. Just because you're not immediately good at it doesn't mean it must be because everyone else has bought a better gun than you.

I can think of a few specific cases where buying something gives you an advantage (A2A rockets for example) but for infantry there's not much in it.

Planetside 2 is the obvious choice since it's free to play, so you'll get an idea of whether you think it's worth actually investing time and, eventually, some money into it.

I was a big BF3 player and while it's still an excellent game (and easy to recommend), I've only been playing PS2 since it was released.

As for the "pay to win" debate, it's not an issue with this game. The starting weapons are all balanced in terms of performance whereas the stuff you can buy is usually stronger in some areas and weaker in others; it allows you to tailor the gear to your play style.

The majority of stuff is available to buy using in-game certification points or real cash; obviously, it's much quicker if you buy station cash and buy them, but it's not going to make you an all-conquering death machine.

I'm just paying the £8.99 month subscription option and for that I get an XP boost, priority access to the server and 500 station cash to spend each month, which I don't consider to be a bad deal.
