Hows the performance with this card in bf3? Reviews show that its a fair bit faster than my 460 and for £125 looks like a worthy upgrade.

Opinions?

cheers :)

Im up late tonight so ill throw my 2 cents in while im here.

Ive done so much research on this over the past week i know more about benchmarks and FPS than i ever want to know lol

But ive check out footage, played it with my 6850 (obviously slower than the 70) and its seems really good. I get a steady 45-50fps with everything set to high so if your not after an ultra card then its a worthy upgrade.

I do play at 1650 x 1080 tho so i compensate that way. Still looks amazing. Upgrading to the 6950 Toxic hopefully tomorrow.

I need to start adding people on origin as ive only just returned to the PC fold.

I know how you feel on the benchmark front lol. Cant really find a lot of solid evidence apart from a couple of benchs for FPS.

I play at 1080p but high settings would be enough for me. The hawk 6870 can get to 560ti performance with a good clock and for 125 bucks looks like a bargain.

If you don't mind the poor and troublesome ATI drivers the 6870's the best bang for the buck right now, but BF3's a meaner benchmark than Crysis ever was. I've resigned myself to lowering all settings to medium at 1080p.

What are these troublesome ati drivers you speak of? I have been running ati for years and only really came across a few niggles.

A 6870 will run bf3 pretty easy as long as you use fxaa instead of msaa. You will probably achieve a steady 60fps on all high settings.

Using fxaa did help a lot, but I'm definitely still not getting 60fps with everything set to high. I could switch terrain and effects to high, so that's something. Not complaining about the card at all though, it's a beast.

As for the drivers, let's see... a power saving feature that will make the clocks change several times a second, causing stutter (and that requires editing the profile/preset xml to disable it), a prehistoric installer that causes errors if you happen to have visual studio installed, default 10% underscaling on the HDMI output, to name a few, and don't let me get started on the xfire problems. In spite of that I'm still using ATI/AMD, I've just stopped recommending them to anyone that isn't at least somewhat knowledgeable with computer troubleshooting, especially as AMD and Sapphire's official support is very poor. From my experience Nvidia drivers are much less annoying.

Im amazed, im running BF3 single player with a hd4870 at medium detail on 1920 * 1080 on my 40 " samsung. Im not saying its silky smooth but deffo playable - think i can definately hold over until the 7 series becomes available.

I've been interested to see the performace of the 6870 in BF3.

I'm looking at the 6870 or the 6950 but not sure if I can stretch to the 6950.

From experience ATI's drivers only really give you big problems running Xfire.

Sorry but this is not true, but what i would say is older cards running Xfire could be more troublesome but then again AMD have far better drivers now in regard to Xfire.

I have 6970's and i have never had any problems whats so ever maybe lucky or i just like games that like Xfire :)

Can i just say ive just had the 6950 Toxic today flicked the switch to make it a 6970 and clocked a bit too! All i can say is wow! getting well over double the FPS i was before!

im interested in this, im getting a laptop with a 6990m and its performance is identical to a 6870 desktop, ill oc it so it should be about 7-10% faster than a 6870. im wanting to go for ultra, imnot too keen on aa been set so high im happy with just minimal edges ie 2x aa. so wondering how the 6870 performs at 1080 on ultra
