BF4 crashes at 4k

Recently got a 4k Iiyama and to play BF4 I have to delete my profile for the game to boot. It starts in $k mode and then I have to reselect all my settings again. If I don't delete my profile when I select a server to join and the game starts it crashes.

I have reinstalled GPU drivers and used DDU to delete old drivers. All other games play fine.

Any ideas?....going mad.

Which profile are you talking about?

How is that monitor Woodsta? Been looking at that one myself. Any problems?

Thanks guys I'll try disabling Origin Overlay.

It's the player profile where all the game settings are. The player profile under Documents/BF4/Settings/and the last profile.

Hi Matt,

Had to fiddle a bit in W8 and CCC to get 60hz working consistently but that was probably more me. And just this BF4 issue. Monitor is pixel perfect.

I can notice the drop from 120fps from my old 1200p down to 60fps at 4k but the detail and clarity makes up for it. With the 7990 and your BIOS it runs BF4 with 70 DOV, 2x MSAA SSAO post processing off, blur off (the rest ultra or hihest settings) at a steady 60-70 fps. Adding in HBAO and 4xMSAA drops 5-10fps. Pleased with the 7990 performance as I feared lower FPS in BF4. Turning down to high then medium only gains 5-10fps. I need to research and play about more with BF4 setting to optimise it.

CCC and W8 does register the monitor vertically capable of 75hz but I've yet to explore how to exploit this if possible.

Colours are different from IPS obviously but I quite like the smoother tn effect. Everything looks very crisp but some settings in W8 are blurry duw to settings and some browsers such as chrome arent great. But anything that does 4k looks very nice. I only game on mine. Some bleed evident if you change viewing angles but head on it's fine and only noticable when screen is black.

Overdrive I had to turn down as to me I could see every frame. AS us AMD owners suffered stutter we are accustomed to spotting it so i run mine without. I havent really played about with it much.

But I have to say that the detail now has made me want to go back and play all my fave older games. Deus Ex, Dishonoured, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 & Tombraider. For me even with AA turned off I have tried to create jaggies and unless your nose is on the screen you cant really pick them out. The deatil in textures I never saw on a lower res monitors surprised me.

Two good reviews from Hexus and Custom PC/Bit tech is what sold me on this one.

If I had Nvidia I may have waited for the Gsync Acer 4k as it's the lower fps whjere Gsync is meant to shine. But the fps really is steady.

After suffering CPU stutter for a while - mine disappeared recently and before I swapped to 4k and to 14.7RC3.

Again thanks again for pointing out origin overlay guys.

Great feedback cheers Woodsta. So bloody tempted. Also tempted to sell off my 290's and replace them with 290X's lol.

Only reason I wanted 290's is from your recommendation as they were nearly as quick. And you got 3!!!! You need a 4k monitor you GEAR TART!

Specs, Sorry thommybhoy.

i7 4770 @ 4.2GHZ under H100i
MSI Z77 G45 GAming
VTX 7990 running LtMatts BIOS stock speeds and no undervolting
Be quiet 850W Power zone

Yes I am running Mantle under BF4

Yep, I'm trying to wait it out but not sure how much longer i can stand by. I do like my graphics.

I like my graphics too. Can't remember what res you run (guessing 1440) but my jump from 1920x1200 did echo this quote from Hexus

And let's cut to the chase: if you're moving from, say, 1080p, the transition to 2160p can be astonishing. Everything looks so fantastically crisp and sharp, and going back to an ordinary monitor feels like a huge downgrade. The hike in pixels-per-inch is, in our estimation, one of the most rewarding PC upgrades available today, and it has tangible benefits.

So I really saw the benefits from teh jump in res and I'm chuffed with it though still double and a bit from 1440p.

Forgot to say that the Iiyama came with loads of cables. Mini DP to DP and DP to DP plus all the other cables.

Apart from the BF4 issue and researching bettering application interfaces for higher resolutions it works out of the box.

Oh and the lack of input lag. This too is noticably reduced though I did have not the quickest DEll 2412M before.

For 4K try using DX11 you may get better performance and should be able to use higher settings.

Mantle @4K is a terrible VRAM hog and can cause all sorts of problems. With Max settings @4K in BF4 DX11 uses about 1gb less VRAM than Mantle.

I also have found that Win7 works better for 4K but I think this is linked with the make of monitor in use.

Disable overlay didn't work and it's a mantle error

Mantle Function "grwsiwintakefullscreenownership" FAILED WITH GR_ERROR_UNKNOWN GPU (AMD RADEON 7900 SERIES (26523), Driver: 83886080

HAppens when the game boots and goes to full screeen.

I'll have to delete the PROFSAVE_PROFILE again and try in DX11 as KaaP says.

Anyone know why mantle will crash @ 4k?

It runs out of VRAM.

Yes!

4K is hungry and you're pushing it with 4gb cards, you really need 6/8gb cards :D

Personally I think its a gimik, but agree it looks VERY pretty, I'd get a 1440p or superwide screen over 4K!

I may well test 4K out soon. I have a feeling I'll be fine if i lower AA down to X2 and i bet the image quality difference between x2 and x4 is unnoticeable at 4k. That said, i do know that 4k and 4gb is cutting it fine with Mantle.

BF4 + K4 + DX11 works fine as it uses a lot less VRAM.

Why compromise on the settings when you can use DX11 and max them.:D

Because the difference in image quality is negligible, but the frame times and (lack of) variance on Mantle are breathtaking. The gpu line never spikes!! (if you don't exceed that vram limit :p)

You don't get big spikes on DX11 either @4K.:p

Mantle is great for lower resolutions but it is rubbish for 4K. There is no point trying to use it if DX11 actually performs better as well.
