BF4 full system lock up

Hi,

I'm getting an issue with BF4 where I get a full system lock up with hard reset required, no sound loops just a frozen image and system unresponsive, nothing in Event Viewer other than the reset

I have a 290X which is AIO cooled and temps are low, +10% on the core and +50 on the memory and latest drivers installed

AMD 8350 @ 5GHZ and temps are also good

750W Seasonic Gold PSU

No other games or programs cause the issue and I've played loads of different games just BF4 which I play pretty much play daily, sometimes I can play for hours with no issue and others like tonight it'll do it twice in half an hour

Anyone had a similar issue and resolved it or any ideas please?

Thanks

Does it do the same at stock CPU speed? I've found bf4 to be pretty stressful on cpu overclocks. Albeit on a variety if Intel chips. Stable in stress tests but often needing to either increase voltage or back the overclock down a bit.

Thanks, CPU has been OC'd for over a year. 4.7 for ages with no issues what so ever and then to 5.0 when I got a new cooler. It was unstable in BF4 when I first got it to 5.0 but I notched the VCore up by 1 and it was fine for ages plus that was a red screen crash so slightly different issue and did the same in Hard Line, then in the last couple of months I'm getting the described full system lock up so I'm fairly confident its not that

I've put the GPU to stock settings to see if its that, it'll take a while to see if it is because the issue is so intermittent

as setter says put cpu to stock and play. maybe a its degraded a little.was a guy on here who used to run 5ghz on his then pop.

Yeah, my first suspicion would be the CPU as well. It may just be something about BF4 that is exposing a weakness in your overclock, even if you've passed other stress tests just fine.

This happen to me when i had my 8350, all i done is upped the volts by 1, bf4 is 1 of them games which will find errors in the overclock.

As above have you got your cpu to downclock when not in use.

What are your VR T1 temps in hwinfo64, i did not let mine go past 80c, safe upto 110c but it's not good for the vrm's, i would add a fan there to bring the temp's down.

Downclock when not in use? I think the power saving stuff I disabled can't remember its been a while but I did whatever was recommended at the time

I've removed the OC from the GPU to see if its that, if it still does it then I'll remove the CPU OC and try again

Yeah goto 1500mhz i think it is and volts dropping to under 1volt, i think it was me as you had the ud3p aswell.

What programs are you running at the same time.

Its more than likely a cpu OC, as gpu would more than likely saying GPU device hung.

Just checked and it down clocks to 1.4 when idle, programs just background stuff like Origin, Steam. Plex server is running and fan controller but they have all been running for years now

Yeah same board I remember now

It was already two notches over 1.5V

I saved the 5GHZ OC as a profile in BIOS and set it to sock settings last night and started from scratch

Got it stable at 4.5 and left all the power saving stuff on and just disabled the virtual machine thing, if BF4 is happier I'm thinking of selling my H110 and getting an air cooler, feel dirty de-clocking it but I quite like the idea of going back to a silent cooler and running the case fans lower

Only ever used medium LLC as its on stable setting, bought a be quiet TF, top down cooler so should cool vrms too, h110 now for sale

I'll play bf4 tonight and see how it runs with it at 4.5, vrms still get hot though hopefully new cooler will fix that

Added you on Origin mate, username on there is Blongers, I only ever play on one server and sometimes there is a queue but its worth it as its a good community and good maps, mixed modes
