BF4 or my GPU's?

I have a pair of VTX3D 7970 X-Editions in CF and have been running a stable 1100/1600 @1.2v O/C for some time, since BF4 I have had endless crashes which up until now I have always blamed on BF4 being unstable.

I can run endless benchmarks at 1150/1700 1.260v nice and stable with no crashes/glitches, not the best O/C in the world but enough for me. For gaming I move down to 1100/1600.

In BF4 you name it I get all, Red screen on death, CTD, Freezes, BF4 has stopped responding, I always thought it was the game, but I had a red screen in COD Ghosts and Bioshock the other day as well. I recently upgraded my PSU from a TX750 to a HX850 thinking I was getting Crashes in Crysis 3 due to lack of power. Now BF4 has been patched several times and it’s still happening every round. The puzzling thing is, once I’ve crashed a couple of times I can go the rest of the night without another problem (3 hours), how can this happen, surely an unstable O/C will crash all the time.

Sure enough if I run default clocks for this card (925) everything’s stable, I can’t reach the 1050 which is advertised on the card without increasing volts slightly.

Are these cards a bag of ****, is BF4 a bag of ****, which is it, doing my head in.

Red screen normally means bump dram or cpu vcore two-three notches. Failing that try bumping VCCIO. Unlikely to be a gpu issue in my many experiences with red screens in Windows 8.

Never had any problems at all with the CPU, running a 3770k @ 4.6 under 1.250 or 1.275v I cant remember which now, I'll try upping to 1.3v see what happens, but I run Prime95 stable endlessly with them settings.

Try dram voltage and vccio as well. Red screen is always one of those.

You could loop in Heaven all day and still crashes within minutes into games.

People have to learn that stable in bench DOES NOT equal to stable in games...especially when the stable overclock in benches are achieved by minimum voltage.

Shankly runs a system that is the same as yours (I think) and he has no crashing at all, so I would look at your overclocks. You must remember that this game is the most stressful game out on all your components and like Matt said, look at your CPU as the reason.

Ok it's better, upped the volts on the CPU, while 1.250v was Prime stable for 4.6 it appears it wasn't BF4 stable, upped to 1.275v and only had one crash tonight, and that was a direct X error, think this is something to do with the game so I've read, can any-one confirm? I've also upped my GPU volts after this crash from 1.20 to 1.225 and so far so good.

Sounds like system instability - BF4 crashes a lot but it tends to be either crashes to desktop where the game just dissapears entirely or to the BF4.exe has stopped working/responding dialog.

If your getting RSOD, BSOD or hard locks its probably not game bugs.

Yer, I get the occasional exit with the bf4.exe has stopped responding and so many other people getting that as well, I wouldn't worry about it.

+1, BF4.exe has stopped working is common when its trying to load a China Rising map and you don't have it.
