What disadvantages are there to buying it retail (steam related)? Apart from not downloading it on whatever pc you are on. Because I can buy it for 12 pound off a well known retailer whereas its 30 quid off of steam! :O
Is this game that much better with a mic because I hear all the battlefield games are much more team related than most modern FPS because currently I don't have a headset for PC but would like to get one. So any recommendations on that front will be helpful anywhere in the region of <=£70 thanks.

Also I don't have a sound card so headsets that work well without a soundcard will be good, I will probably get a sound card at some point but for now I'll be happy with the onboard sound.

The only disadvantages I can see is if you scratch or lose the DVD and if you format you forget to save your saves and settings you will have to do them again.

And each time you run the game it checks for the latest update, so I guess that would be a disadvantage because steam will keep it up to date automatically (I assume this because it may well run the same exe and check for an update each time you run it from steam, maybe someone that has it on steam can confirm this).

Thanks mate :).

No benefits for having it on Steam, just means you can't sell it.

It's a self updating game, Steam overlay works fine if you add it as a non-Steam game.

Nobody uses mic's on public servers. I don't think the in-game voip even works, and it dice aren't exactly known for patching problems like that.

yeah its true teh VOIP is sketch. i've heard it work for a couple sentences, then it breaks. the game is best when played with friends on using a third parti VOIP, I use TS3, although it seems the same as TS2 and I dunno why I use TS3 other than 3 is bigger than 2.

also OT, yeah disadvantage of steam is no re-sell. but you know what... I don't think I have ever re-sold a PC game.
