hi y'all
This question is a bit spesific but based on all the reaserch i'v done of late it seems that the ATI 4890 is about the same performance as a GTX 275 (depending on the game obviously)

as i'v recently warmed to the idea of getting a 24" monitor (1920x1200) i also warmed to the idea of SLI / crossfire (as i understand thats the kind of resolution that SLI/CF shines at) was origonaly going for a single GTX 295 but reading everywhere that 4890 CF comes pretty close and in some cases beats it. also under the impression that 275 SLI would be pretty simmilar.

im just wondering considering there the same price which would perform better on most games? 2x THIS in SLI or
2x THIS in crossfire?

i should also mention i would plan on overclocking the ASUS cards if i got them as i found a guide and it looks relitivly easy (never overclocked before)

also i will be getting an overclocked i7 920 @ 4GHz if that helps.

Thanks.

Right now you want to wait until ati release their new cards, rumoured benchmarks suggest that a single 5870 will outperform a gtx295, so just try and hold out for a little longer

bearing in mind even if the new ati cards are too expensive, the prices of other cards are likely to take a hit

I'ld have to agree with D13, hold out 2 weeks, Rumours are the 5870 will be around £200-250, 5850 around £150-£200, 5850 should outperform 285 and 5890 should by the looks of it hopefully destroy a 295.

>< silly me, i forgot about that, every time i remember i wait a bit, then start searching again.

just another 10 days now right?

that asside, if the new cards were not coming out for a wile, which of the abouve in question would yeild the best performance (on average)

neither is better... if you look at benchmarks over a good range of games say 15-20... the 4890cf is faster in say 5-6 games, the 200 series SLI faster in 5-6 games and they are pretty much equal within 1-2 fps or so in everything else... so really it depends on what games you play.

haha yea thats cool

based on what rroff said i think that id go for the 4890's just so i can attempt an overclock without worrying too much. Also look how cool the ASUS card is, i read a review about it and its inproved heatsink etc...
